Hello. The Ribbon Spine is another way of building an IK-like spine rig. The idea was to allow for the same stretchy controls as a Stretchy Spline IK and end-to-end twisting, like Stretchy Spline IK with Advanced Twist Control. But I also wanted to be able to have some rotation control in the center of the spine.

Another thing I wanted to avoid was rotation flipping, which happens after 180 degrees on the Spline IK. So there is one way of building this Ribbon rig so that there is no limit to the length-wise twisting.

Lastly, there is no scaling involved with the Ribbon Spine. Although this is typically not a big problem in the Spline IK rig it doesn't hurt to avoid this, since I sometimes don't want the end joint scaling beyond the length of the spline that is controlling it. Just a minor annoyance.

So, long story short, the Ribbon Spine is another way to get a stretchy rig with a little more control than a Spline IK. It can be used for arms, legs, etc.

Hope this help!
