View Full Version : maya bumps vs mental ray bumps

hi all,

my night scene needs 2:20h for rendering i use maya own bump nodes and some mental ray shader. I know that area lights with light shapes use to slow down my render time but when i use a dgs shader with a mr bump node pluged in specular he speeds up.
The problem is i dont know how to use the mr shader to reach the quality of my maya shader.

here is my scene for the wet ground with maya own shader under mr render:

my scenesettings:


Light settings:
1 direct light for the moon cast shadows on the ground "ray trace shadow"
6 direct lights for illuminating the scene with blue moon light
3 Area Light "mr light shape / ray trace shadow"

Rendersettings:
HD720
AA 0/2 Box 1 1
contrast 0.01 0.01 0.01

raytracing

refr: 4
refl: 4
max trace 4

All textures are baked in .map format // 400-500MB

Need some help to tweak my shader or my settings for the scene....thx for help :)

The bump_map2 node is a lot cleaner... unless there's a specific reason you are using the other method. I myself am a little new to mr bump, but try connecting the bump2 node.


DGS -> Texture -> bump2 -> SG
