This new driver automates the install process for you. Much better than the previous version..Kudos to Nvidia!

This driver is very nice. Especially the fix in 2d accelleration that was broken in the last release. Putting a simple picture on the desktop was so slow with the last drivers. 3d gets a nice little speed up too. I love the new installer too.

yeah i heard they did away with the RPM format all together, and the new installer is quite neat. plus the autoupdate feature to get drivers automagically, which is a cool idea (probably a little dangerous too, but that's the sysadmin in me talking there).

Beaker have you been able to turn on the 3D hardware Accelleration tab in the display settings? If so how?

You can't enable that...you have to be one of those command-line people and edit the XFree86Config file in /etc to finetune the driver. The GUI does not work with the driver thats all.
BTW I also run RH 8.0

you can ignore that. it's only there for people using open-source drivers from the xfree86 team that support 3d accelleration (matrox and ati xf86 drivers in particular, i believe).
xf86 nvidia drivers (the "nv" driver) doesn't support 3d accelleration (only 2d). nvidia's own closed-source drivers support 3d accelleration even without that box checked. if you install these you can happily ignore it.
