View Full Version : making polys
bukowskit 03-31-2003, 07:47 PM Howdy,
I have downloaded XSI Exp and I am curious about one thing - can I make points one by one and then make polygon out of them, just like in LW with "+" and "P" key. If thats possible, can I afterwards smooth out the the whole thing using "+" key in XSI ? Thanks

yes, only that you can do it way faster than in Lightwave.
1) you select and edge and extrude/dulicate it
or you
2) you select a polygon (u) and ctrl+d to duplicate it, then you click (x) to scale it.

Hi Raffael, I know almost nothing about LW and producing that would be faster I guess in XSI, but the ability to place just points is something XSI cannot do (unless you count particles ;) I think it would be useful.
(also no point OP, or params in OPs to use just points etc. :(

extruding edges - okay but that means I already got some polys. What if I want to start from scratch and make points and then somehow connect them in order to make polygon? Hope you know waht I mean...

the way to do it would be to click "n", it is the polygon tool, but it's my way now of laying down points.
only that you will get a polygon out of it directly.
try it out.

you may also add after the vertices using the "add vertex" tool.

sounds interesting...gonna try it soon...thanks a lot

I understand what bukowskit mean, but the real answer is "no": in XSI can not exist a point without one or more polygon connect to it. But if you have got a polygon you can duplicate an edge, a point or the polygon selected and move its (like extruding its).

n tool would be the equivilant as Raffael mentioned. In LW you would lay down the points then convert them to polys. The N tool automatically creates the polys for you as your laying down the points.
