View Full Version : Best Tablet?
StOuen 08-22-2007, 12:40 PM Hi,
Yes, I know I am lazy and I could probably get this info off the web but from a users perspective, I was wondering if anyone could advise on a tablet for use with zBrush? What is the best size? (ie: A5 / A4 etc). Also, is Wacom the nuts or are their other brands that would suit?
Thanks in advance...

It very much depends on your needs which one you should get.
As for Wacom and other brands, I don't know anything about other brands. But I do know that the Wacom is very good quality. I have had mine for ten years and it's still working perfectly.
I will, however, have to buy a new one, no serial port on the new computer. And I have decided to go for the Intuos3 A5 Wide, to go with the new computer (widescreen). I do texturing and ZBrushing among other things. I've chosen the A5, because I don't have big movements with my arm when I draw, and the A5 takes up less space on my desk. It's also smaller to bring with me.

Thanks madart.
I will be doing similar but was unsure about size. I will be mostly doing detail work in zBrush with the base mesh constructed in LightWave so A5 wide seems way to go.
Thanks again.

Yes It does seem like a good choice. As for the size, I know some people who have bought the A4, thinking that the A5 is too small, and then found that the A4 takes up much too space on the desk. :D :)
And the Intuos Wide goes with a widescreen or dual screen.

hi StOuen,
i tested the Trust-TB-4200 and am now back using my old wacom volito2 again. its much more comfortable, the trust tablet was a bit too big. guess wacom just know their business:)

For sure. Use a Wacom and you'll be much happier. I have tested three or four brands before and always came back to Wacom :)
Recently bought a Intuos 3 :)

Yup, there's a wacom and then huge empty space and then all the others.
I got myself Intous3 6x8" and couldn't be hapier. It's not that wide version, but I have no problems at all using it on wide screens at all. I guess wide one comes to full glory with dual screens.
You can't go wrong with Wacom. It seems much more expensive that others, but it will pay for itself. They seem to be indestructible.
Cheers

Ive had my WACOM Intuos 3 for about a year and a half now, ITS GREAT!! I give it 11 out of 10. Its beyond any other tool ive ever used. Ive baugh 1 for myself then helped 3 of my other friends buy other sizes, to be honest I would mostly recomend the 9x12 for serious art and the 6x8 for casual /or on the go work (laptops or constant travel). I would recoment not getting the 6x11 unless you have a widscreen and thats it. The 6x11 doesnt work that well on 2 monitors. The 9x12 has the best sensitivity and feels the most comfortable when holding it or in your lap.
When I first got mine, it drove me nuts because it seemed disproportonat, then i found the option to fix that. After you install the latest drivers go into your control panel>Wacom tablet Properties>Mapping tab> Check "Force Proportions" under screen area.

I don't consider myself expert with a pad, though I do have an Intuos 8X6 and a Graphire 4x6 with my notebook. As to your other question -- I went through the same thing when I bought mine, and I still look at tablet threads like this one. I love my tablets, and the consensus all over from amateur and pro alike is about 100% : "Pads other than Wacom? What other pads!?!?" Stop looking at others, just get a Wacom, they are it, you will never regret it, ever........

Wacom Intuos 3 6X9 is by far the best. Smaller is a bit cramped and bigger is too much of a work out.
