Hi Everybody,

It's the first time I come in the WIP. I don't really understand how it works but I guess everyone can post his work in process and get criticized...

So let’s try with that little picture.

I used to do some pencil drawings for postcards publications. Recently, I was asked for a couple of new pictures but I really miss time to do a pencil work. And I thought : “why not trying this time a CG painting?“ After all, if you do nice values, and maybe texturize a bit the picture, it’s not that far from a nice pencil drawing?
By the way, that will help after if I want to redo it in colors, by glazing it even if I usually prefer to paint directly in colors…
So, here is the first step of the picture. The girl is trying to domesticate a baby dragon, which is very frightened at the beginning but spit a cloud of smoke in heart shape….

It remains a lot to do… It’s really quite the beginning but I thought I had rather to post it from the beginning…

Every critics welcome !

Cheers,

Krystal

I have to admit that you got the talent!
My advice is you should use other layers for highlights and shadows. Firstly you draw the character with lines on a new layer then give it some midtone gray. For this, simply adjust the given layers bightness down. Then erase the background around the character. So now you have a midtone figure on white background, mayhap. Then you create a new layer again for shadows now and paint the darken areas. And then you paint the highlights on another layer. I guess this makes easier to handle the contrast and the lightning as well. On the other hand u should have to paint more sharpen somehow to emphasize some part of your picture.
If you will have got enough groovy to make your picture well shaded you can pay more attention for the anatomy. (I'm not sure wheter her right shoulder visible, and i don't understand why did't you paint her ear? Don't try to splodge the important details... :P)
So these are my first advices... I hope i could help to impove your skills of CGart! Keep it up!

I think this is looking great! And I love her face and the expressivness of the picture.

I do agree with the layer thing...it does help. :D but you can do whatever is more comfortable for you really. lol also it does work to make a grayscale image first and then make a new layer overlaying color on top. I think you will love digital paint! Just remember to have fun!!
