Hi all!
I have very common question. May be You can provide me with ideas|suggestions|techniques - how to create solar flares effect. Example refference is demo reel on
http://www.elementvfx.com/ (solar flares are between 1m:45sec - 1min:50sec).
Last weeks I tried some ways using particles and goals, but have very bad results.
What's the best way for such effect on your opinion?

I've seen a DVD from Gnomon using paintFX to create solar flares that could work from a distance with plenty of motion blur. He used one of the plant presets with growth animation which would uncurl and whip around like a flare does. Seemed to work with nice results.
