There I was, working along without a care in the world, when...BANG! Cinema 4D crashed on me. Just like that (snaps fingers) it was gone. No kiss goodbye, no bacon, no nothing, just...gone.

The same thing happened to me only a year and a half ago, and about two years before that: this constant crashing is really unsettling. I don't know if I can take it anymore; I may have to take the rest of the day off to contemplate the universe, or something. The stability issues really have me worried now.

Whatever shall I do?

P.S. For the humor-challenged, I'm not really serious: a year and a half between crashed is really amazing.

I'm sure the users of *insert any other 3D app name here* have had lots of free time they used to reboot their app to spend contemplating the universe ;)

Haha I almost took this seriously wow. Yeah Cinema is amazing, especially with the fact that you can render AND work on another project at the same time without any hiccups. For the most part, the only crashes or hangs I've gotten with it have been using plugins, or ridiculous boolean operations.

Yeah, same here. I traced the cause of the crash to an old SLA shader. Actually, the program is amazing in its ability to keep chugging along. I was serious; this is my first crash in like 18 months. Now, back on my old G3 using system OS 9, the computer crashed two or three times a day for no apparent reason...except when I was using Cinema 4D. I don't know; maybe it's a magical program.

I've just switched to C4D after 7 years of enduring Lightwave 3D's 5 or 6 DAILY crashes and freezes. Don't get me wrong. LW is a fantastic program, and I did some great work with it and made quite a few bucks along the way, but I always thought that it was just too hard to do a lot of stuff. And switching from Modeler to Layout... quite un-intuitive. Especially when the two apps lose track of eachother and have to be restarted to get them linked again... arghhh.

Then I tried C4D and discovered that CGI work can actually be fast, fun and crash free! Wow, you can model AND animate in the same app? Who'd a thought! Tags? Tags? Holy moly, you just put a deform tag on an object and tweak away... you mean I don't have to create morphs just to animate a pole bending? What a concept! C4D rocks. Hard.

Just did my 1st project in C4D and baby, I'm NOT going back to LW unless it's to revise an old project! No way. This is too good. I didn't even have to set up a render farm because it renders about 10x faster than LW. Nice.

The ONLY thing I miss in LW, especially from the latest 9.2 version, is the super smooth motion blur effects you can get... I can't seem to replicate that look in C4D. From what I've read, it's a kernel issue and seems like a problem that Maxon needs to address. Other than that, C4D is the bomb. (What? I can shatter objects without first loading the object into a PC version of LW so I can run the freakin' PC-only plugin that will allow me to shatter it? Wow.)

Welcome aboard.

You think you like it now? Wait awhile. I don't know how to tell you this, but C4D gets better the more you use it, and Maxon keeps improving it at a pretty rapid pace.

I personally am very upset and hurt when a crash happens. It is all Maxon's fault! Because Cinema is so stable, I never get innured to the effects on my psyche when it does. (very big grin)

Therapy! I need therapy! Maxon is driving me to the therapist's couch. It's not like we can get used to several crashes a day like with some software. No, Maxon makes C4D so stable that it lures us into a false sense of security. Then, when it does happen, a crash is really traumatic. I may have to start drinking...and I'm a tea-totaler!

Incarnadine, I feel your pain.
