How many times has King Kong been done? Disappointing if you ask me. I think Mr. Jackson should have come out with something original or maybe do another fantasy series (Wheel of Time anyone?).
Oh well, maybe Kong will be worth going to see but I don't think it will be a big ticket item. Remember Godzilla?:hmm:

Peter Jackson doing "King Kong" is GREAT news!!:applause:
This is one film I would love to work on and if anybody is going to remake it....then Peter Jackson is the man to do it and I am sure he will do a great job!

Hell Yeah, it will be awesome!! He's been wanting to do King Kong for years & years - I guess after LotR he's got the cred to do what he wants... & They are doing it here in Wellypop, Whipeee!!! :bounce:

I agree with Leigh!
I can't wait for the King Kong film - I think he's proven (and his team) that they can do justice to the classic stories.
What really excites me is the fact that Jason mentioned at least a couple of times that they would be working on "The Hobbit" shortly. I had always heard rumors, but hearing him confirm it on the radio broadcast through 3dbuzz just really got me excited.
Jason, care to elaborate (if indeed you are allowed)?
Anyways, back to the topic, I think it is going to be another incredible film - go King Kong!!
wheel of time?? i would love to see Robert Jordan's books come to life in the silverscreen but... i would like to see PJ compress the story... it's currently on the 10th book and still going lol

I think he lacks of innovation.. Yeah he's a great director but I don't think he can ever come up with something like the matrix..
but nevertheless, king kong rules!! :buttrock:

Yeah, I've got all the books but I actually stopped reading 'em at book 5! Talk about repetition. I think the first three books would do nicely and then a text epilogue for the ending...:D
Another series I'd love to see made into a movie is "The Gap Series" by Stephen R. Donaldson. I think Mr. Jackson would do an awesome job of it.

PJ lacks innovation???
Don't think so.
Meet the Feebles was way ahead of its time. Long before simpsons, southpark, etc.

LOL! This was a joke.. we were talking about how people wouldn't be able to guess my number because of all the digits.. so I JOKED about us doing the "hobbit" on the moon 'cuz there'd be so many more numbers to guess.
we're not doing the hobbit, sorry! :)

I really would've preferred if Jackson did something original after LOTR. It's not like he can't write original stuff.
I think all directors who CAN write should do original work--whenever they can. Leave the adaptations/remakes to directors like Ridley Scott or others that can't write original work.

That comment wasn't a criticism towards either Jackson or Scott. It's just a fact that some directors are good at writing original material, while others aren't. Both kinds of directors can be very good at directing.

Man, this is great news. At first I was terribly afraid that this was another April Fools joke and almost did not check it out. I have been hoping for a King Kong remake the past few months. My 7 year old daughter is and has been a major league gorilla fanatic since she was a few months old. I have been trying to find a copy of the 1976/7(?) version for her since she has not yet seen the movie. But dang thats a hard thing to find. I really like something Leighs thread stated and it now has me really fired up.
Knowing when he's on to a good thing, Jackson will once again film entirely in his native New Zealand, with all special effects done by Weta, :bounce: :bounce: :bounce:

Jason you dog!
I was getting all squirrelly with excitement at the prospect of the Hobbit. Oh well, I guess I should go and take a cold shower.

I too would have prefered to see a whole new and original endeavor, King Kong is done, let it rest already and aim for something not borrowed but something new.
Hey, PJ, if you´re running outta ideas, I´ve got more than I can handle.

I agree with most of you in that I would love to see something new and original. There are so many stories just begging for the kinda of magic that Peter Jackson and WETA can create. But, personally I'm still glad they're doing King Kong, maybe more for my daughters enjoyment then mine but gald none the less.

Peter Jackson should go for something original. I dont really like remakes and I wonder if there was ever a remake that was better than the original.
The original King Kong (the b&w one) rocks.
A King Kong remake sound like a huge fx battle to me.
I did hope for the hobbit.

Yup. To think that perhaps in another 20 years or so someone will decide to remake Toy Story or Ice Age or...?
Enough with the remakes and get on with originality. Keep the movie industry and creativity moving forward!:wip:

PJ has been talking about doing King Kong since before he did LOTR. It was actually going to be his next movie before LOTR came around. So he has been planning on doing it for like 10 years.

If anybody could make a good King Kong remake, it is Peter Jackson.
Sure the original (1933) was the best, but the last remake was not to bad.
The originals are always the best, go to see Nosferatu (original Dracula), Titanic or whatever.
I just hope the main actors are not Jennifer Lopez and Mark Wahlberg. (planet of the apes)

For some reason i thought that Peter jackson was doing a trilogy based on the Books "the Golden Compass" Upon completion of LOTR of course.
King Kong seems like a Tim Burton kind of remake.
But i am sure Peter will do well with it.
I am excited. Let's hope it is better than The Godzilla remake. I can just imagine hundreds of baby king kongs running around a footbal stadium...:annoyed:

Tim Burton would be pretty bad !!!
Planet of the apes remake was so:cry:
