truly amazing! but i noticed you've comped it in some pretty shallow water.. so i'm thinking it should have some sort of shadow on the sea bed
other than that... perfecto..
Oh my god! This is the most realistic piece of CG I've ever seen.
Keep it up!!

It does have a shadow, the head is just to the right of the coral, and the fin is just to the left, you can't see it very well because of all the other shadows but it's there. Just follow the line. Or maybe I'm wrong but I do see a shadow.
Damn awesome image though!

I think the turtle is great, but it seems a bit too close to the sea bed while not entirely looking like it is that close to the sea bed. *shrugs* I watch far too many nature shows :)

Hey,
very nice job, two notes, ive seen sea turtles while scuba diving, and in nature shows and im pretty sure that the shell you make is more like a tortous than a sea turtle. sea turtle shels are smother, cause they are hydrodynamice. Not a huge deal, most people wont notice though.
I do think you should get a nicer backdrop that doesnt have so much turquoise haze, a pic with clearer water will show off the work you did better.
good luck , keep it up

For those questioning the CG nature of this stunning piece of work take alook at his front flipper its bump mapped, theres no displacements along its nice long smooth curve. This is one incredible piece of work. Major Kudos to you and a major begging job from me for a run down on your tech!!:applause:

Simply incredible acheivement here. Can you share any tips on how you kept the textures from stretching after you applied polysmooth? Also how long was the render time?
Very nice work

nice dude, but some kind of strange feeling about the background, i think the composition is good but i can see the difference between the bakground and the model

I didnīt do anything special with the textures. I did simple planar map and choose relax UVs. That seemed to do the trick. I used only planar mapping.
I used a global lightning (a lightdome). You can found it at higend3d.com i belive. Itīs a lightning that does soft shadows.
The rendertime is 2 minutes at 1280*1024.
Here are the textures. 25% of their real size.

Hehe. Im kind of happy i spotted it, i did think the turtle was mixed and matched. No big deal, its probably the ancestor of a modern sea turtle, as they were evolving from land turtles.
anyway, have fun, awesome job.
