Title: Nissan 300ZX
Name: Aditya Talwar
Country: India
Software: 3ds max, mental ray, Photoshop
This is my first detailed car model.. Made this using 3dsMax.. I tried to give special attention to detail while making the materials for each part.. especially the lights and the side view mirrors.
I know many people think that Vray is the best for this kind of rendering but I just want to prove that good results can be achieved with mental ray also. Plus its Faster :)
I would be very greatful if you could drop in some comments and suggestions.
Note: Thanks to some valuable suggestions I have made some changes to the reflections.

Greets,
Overall I have to say it's a nice model, the modeling is good mats are good also, but I'm not sold on the car paint mat, it seems too reflective and sharp to me. And you're right about mental ray, it can do great stuff, it just has a heftier learning curve to get the right results!
keep it up!

nice. the things you focused on are great, but as Mr. Armless said, the car paint is much too shiny/reflective. It also makes the car's steel plates (right word for it??) look very thin, try adding some volume (f.e., layered shader with some refractivity).

...about the paint shader. Did you use the mi_carpaint_phenom or whatever? Give it a shot if you haven't! It's much more sparkly and has tons of options, I'm sure you already know that though...
And I have yet to see any Vray render that mental ray couldn't do much, much faster. As far as I can tell, Vray is horrible for animation due to render times? But I do like Vray renders, too!

i agree with the car paint problem, but mentalray is mush faster than vray and also can have very promising results, hope to see your next one soon

...that the headlight lens covers are very convincing? The bulbs and interior of your lights are AWESOME, but the glass cover perhaps needs to be just a bit noisier/dirtier to be realistic? As of now, one has to "guess" that it's there, it's so transparent. But I do love how this one's coming along, everything's still just a bit too clean?
