Does anyone know how to create a very dark room with with one light shining in the room?

Hmmm, what about making a dark room, and then shining a single light inside that room? :)
I can give you some pointers, but it would be much more helpfull if you would be more specific about what you want to achieve.
If you want to have easy lighting you can go with global illumination, because that will give realistic results with the minimum of hassle (but a maximum of rendertime).
Using a volumetric light to simulate light rays adds a lot to the look too.
For even more realism you could make dust particles in the air that are only visible in the light rays.
Interesting...And thanks sorry i didnt post the question right, it was just i didnt know how to make a room dark period. On the mutilpier i go negative with pecentage and lights tend to invert, but it still darkens things.

remember to use attenaution, that way you can have a light in the room without EVERYTHING lighting up. Hit up attenaution in the help-file for detailed.. er.. details.
