Title: The Body Butcher
Name: Dan Roarty
Country: Canada
Software: Maya, mental ray, Photoshop

The Body Butcher is a disgusting remorseless character that kills humans for body parts. He eats the fresh flesh and caries remains for later. He feels little pain and cares not for others.

I had tons of fun with this character! The character is an original design I created in my spare time. I have been working on him off and on for some time and eventually created a background for him. The character is all 3d and the background is mostly 2d with hand painting and photo ref. I can post some bind pose images as well. created using maya, mudbox and photoshop.

thanks everyone for all the critiques and encouragement!

Well you know I've been following this for a while, and I still think it's awesome!
Great job!

If i was going to change anything about it, I might have added one or two aformentioned bits of remains hanging out his bag, but that's just me, and maybe it would look a little tacky anyway?
I can't think of how I would improve on that, to be honest.

I'm having one major problem with this character - namely that from the description you've given he's a fierce murderer and it's also obvious from looking at him that he's doing it in a not-so-gentle a manner, carrying an axe and being covered in blood top to bottom. Unfortunately I'm having great difficulty seeing him overpower any victim with all that skin inbetween the arms and belly - he just wouldn't be able to lift his hands even enough to put an arm across anybody in a firm grip + he would feel some pain ;) if the struggling victim just tore it... - just the first thing that crossed my mind when I first saw him in your WIP thread...
still a very good job modeling-wise and cool texturing for sure :)

That's a pretty awesome character design. if I could change one thing, it would be the skin webbing on the arms and torso. It's a cool idea, but I don't think it works in this case. The only other thing I would suggest would be that I'd like to know either where he's come from or where he's going. The abstract distant background is very well done, but doesn't add much to the character.

Fantastic work

The skin connecting the arms and body make the character feel less scary since i imagine it trying to eat and not being able to reach his mouth. Also he will have hard times killing with his axe since he can t raise his hands.

But non the less great skills.

Just a thought, but in my mind at least...the skin connecting his torso to his arms could be really elastic. I just think it looks cool... and gruesome... let's not forget it's not meant to be based on anything real(?) so the so-called "limitations" of the extra skin need not necessarily be so bad. ;)
