Hey I am pretty new to maya and was wondering if there were any free downloadable GI lighting/rendering plugins? and if there are, if they can render animations without the dreaded gi flicker?

mentalRay for MAYA is capable of GI and despite of that it's absolutely free! get your copy here (http://www.aliaswavefront.com/en/news/home.shtml) !:thumbsup:

Cool thanks guys, I should have realized mental ray would have it :p

gi flicker happens in max all the time. stills look cool, but shadows often flicker when scenes are animated due to the way they are calculated.

Search highend3d.com. There are atleast a dozen different scripts for faking GI with light on there, plus 3-5 plugins.

mental Ray from the A|W site.
there are no substitutes
well maybe renderman but that is somewhat pricy
