(work in progress) There are still blending and light issues to be fixed (for example adding proper shadows on the central far rockwall), artefacts left around, but I need some quick C&C about the picture per whole, mood & composition.

The requirements were to have an arizona-like image, with a cactus in foreground and using a blue-red-green color palette.
It was particulary hard since every single element of this scene comes from a different photo reference...there are like 15 shots used here, all with different colors and light

Thanks in advance!

Im not saying you did a bad job or anything... but being that I live in Arizona I figure I should share, greens in AZ are rarely if at all that green. I have only seen those greens the day after a spring storm and only on the plants that really aren't native to AZ. Here is a pano I shot in Sedona to give you and idea of what Im saying. This is probably just me though. Sedona (http://www.blurred-pixels.com/mp_images/Sedona.jpg)

so I should cut the green value or cut the vegetation? :D Because I've seen photos were there was a lot of vegetation...

Thanks for the pano btw, may I use some parts of it? :D

This would be a version with a less green, and more dark/blue values, as seen in your photo. Is it more acceptable for a local? :D
Also corrected the cactus exposure.

Cool site man.

My only thought is about how much is paint and how much is photo!

hey, itīs looking good, eventhough I donīt see a good focal point maybe this is just going to be used for background , but well that cactus definitely makes a nice depth effect, I would add more interesting clouds to ir, more complex , compared with the detail of the mountains the clouds you have so far look like a quick brushed in photoshop, also the middleground mountains need to blend more with the cyan you've got on the background mountains, some how I would add a little blur to the perfect CG look edges you got, other than that I think itīs looking great

Grrr (master blaster? :D)> thanks! the image is made out of about 15 different sources so i guess a lot of it is phototexture, but there's also painting, specially for blending and details. I would say 60% versus 40%. And because I've used so many sources I also had a hard time making everything fit together, color and light-wise so painting again.

James> thanks for the feedback!, yes it doesn't have a focal point, that was the requirement. they will most likely use it for a background.

The thing that caught my eye immediately was the butte on the right, mid-ground,
looks pasted in. It appears to close and to small, hence unnatural. Other than that—I likes.

I think the mid ground rock structures on the right need lightening up a bit to push them back a little, and i think maybe it could do with the shadows being lightened a bit. Maybe play with the blue levels in curves too to really get it set it there. Very specific, I know, but I really cant find anything that hasn't been addressed. It looks great!

Yes I have to say the second one is better... with saturation changes. Alot of images of arizona tend to be shot around that happy time of year where there maybe rain and the heat isnt in the triple digits yet hence why you see green... now to someone who hasnt been your image could work fine its just me. As for the sedona image have at it, just know its part of a panoramic matte im working on so you will see it again soon, but if you want to chop it up be my guest.

Also a note, the stereotypical puffy clouds are very common here, you may want to consider the sky full of puffy clouds and some random shadows on your rocks and plains because of it.

Yes. Cloud shadows would be a great touch. They add grandeur to a scene like this.
