This is my first sketch, wich presents my overall idéa. Dragons working on their ultimate weapon to feed on diplodocuses (large dinsosaurs). Ofcourse, everyone knows, dragons should'nt meddle with explosives.

This is my basic low poly dragon. I'll use this one as a start for alle three dragons. Exporting from Maya to z-brush, and then giving them personality and diversity.
The lowPoly is basicly made out of quads, originally made from a box.

I finally got some time to continue my dragons. Here is the first dragon, the one whoms painting on the bomb. This is z-brush render without eyes, and props. I'll do a few more adjustments, then I'll start on the other two, using the same low poly model posted before.

This is the second dragon, he's all about spikes and muscles. He's also adding spikes to the bomb from his own body.

Thanks Ania!
Hopefully he'll be eaven more sympatic when he get glasses and a paintbrush in his hand! :)

This is the third and final dragon. I'll give his scin a noisy specular map. The same specular you find in snow.
All three models are exported as low poly to maya, I'll show the real maya renders soon.
But first I'll model the ground! :) Lots to do!

This is the ground. I'll also add eaven more rocks, and a few plants. The setting is early morning, so there'll be a bright light coming in low. The ground was modeled in z-brush, with 2million polygons, then I imported the mesh to maya, with 600 000 polygons and a 32bit bumpmap, to avoid stear steps. The hi res poly, gives me a faster render than the displacement, and nearby the same result.
I'll submit the plant scetches later.Currently I'm rigging the dragons.

This is my storyboard, I'm currently animating. Title of the animation will be "how to become instinct (in20sek)".
At the wery end, we'll understand the bomb is about to explode, then I'll go to black and end creds, and I'll blow up my end creds. Hopefully it'll give a comical punch to it.

This is my background. It's made out of five images. After merging the images together, I used a color ramp with softlight to create the illution of sunrice to darker sky. The teksture has no seams and repeat at the edges.

Here is my entire scene put together and lit (except the dragons).
The sceene is lit by the surounding bacground and a spotlight as sun. Then there's a faint blue directional light pointing from left to right. The shadow areas on the ground in front and on the mountain shelf is from the dragons. I'll post another with them included tomorrow. There is a simple white lambert assigned to all objects, no bump.

This is my entire scene, with models. A simple white lambert is applied to all models, except the dragons, who has a white simple-fast misss, and a displacment.

This is my render without any effects. I'll add some hace and fog, a few light rays from the sun, and also depth. Then I'll color correct the image. Without the depth focus, the image appears a bit messy. Hopefully that'll change.

This is a playblast from maya. It may be somewhat confusing without color, hopefully you'll get something out of it. (The smart dragon is painting the atom sign)
I'm considering to expand the second scene with two more seconds. I originally created it this short in order to render on time, but now with two weeks, I can afford another two sec. :)

When tha lazy dragon drools, his drooling is on fire. And when strong dragon roars, it's because he can see the bomb is lit. In the last scene, lazy dragon tries to blow out the fire, at final blow, he sends away a good potion of fire. All fire effects applies in post.

How to become extinct!
This is my final image and why we don't se that many dragons around these days. At first glans you should see two dragons making a bomb. That's perfectly normal! Then you'll notice in the background, the third -fire drooling dragon, whom has set the fuse on fire.
This has been an experiment for me using displacementmaps. I wanted to to detailed models, and some sort of monsters. Usually I'm working with maya on TV graphics, so this has been a great experience.
I tried to make an alien environment, with lots of strange creatures. Everything in the scene has little black eyes. I also wanted to give it an early morning feel.
All models are first modeled in maya, then I've done displacements and bumps in z-brush. All dragons are rendered separately, then added on the background. Then I made a volume light fog, and a depth map. All textures where collected from cgtextures.com

Hope you like it! Animation will be posted in a few hours.

Overcontrast: Yep, this was a close call! Sorry to hear about your power breakdown! But you really managed to do a great job anyway!
I love your characters! Your modeling skills is great! I hope to be that good one day!

ri-381: Thanx, I'm not to confident about lightning, but if you liked it, (which I really appreciate) I guess I did something right! :)

Phlorins: Thanx mate, hope you like my renders! I actually did a 6megapixel image. Download this: http://www.evengi.no/delt/strangebahaviour/FinalImageExtinctJPG.jpg

-I had a few errors in my sound, and also a few bugs in the picture, that I typically detected just a few sec to late. :) Anyway, I'll be posting a link tomorrow just to show how i really intended it to be.
Best luck to all!
