Hi there,

I finished modeling the violin, here are the pics (no much compression sorry)

First, if you want click on this link of another forums that allows direct image linking. That way you will see the images in a row.

http://www.maxforums.org/forum/forum.asp?t=109612&r=0

If not, these are the links to the individual pics:

some images of the WIP were in this post:

I will try to improve the texture if I find a more suitable (regular, not that many knots, and biger) wood texture. I actually think that the texture work is spoiling the modeling :/

Here, have a look at the untextured thing:

Could any one post a link to some good free wood texture that would suit better?

Thanks a lot. Comments and crits appreciated.

That looks beautiful! I was actually just practicing my violin and thought, "I'll just take a break to check out CGTalk..." and I found this wonderful piece!

There is one thing I've noticed from looking at my violin and comparing it with yours. The black piece below the bridge, on the bottom half of the violin needs to be curved. Also, your f-holes need notches in them to make them f's.

I've always tried to be constructive and helpful rather than an annoyance, so I thought, "what can I do to help this guy?" So, I've taken some video of my violin and I was going to get it to you. But, I cannot compress it well enough for internet sending. If you PM me with your email, I'll be glad to talk on MSN, or whatever to get you any reference you need for your model.

i agree that the textures are not helping the model much. try to get the wood to look polished, the surface either needs to be more reflective or if it is reflective, there needs to be somthing to be reflected, hdri ect.

good luck.

Thanks for your words.

If you want to see the "finished" one, it is at the link on MaxForums that I posted in the first message.

There are some updates there, like some reflections.

I know I should make some improvements, like the small notches in the F holes, but I am a bit violin saturated at this moment. IŽll do that some day, together with making the "belly" fatter in the main body. I will post that on this thread.

Bye!

The modelling is great.. i think the texturing has a way to go though.. the wood doesn't look too real..

I actually think it looks the wrong type of wood.. As far as I've seen instruments are generally made of quite dense looking wood.. like the one someone pasted into your thread on maxforums..

Hi TNTJack,

That looks great! The shape of the body and scroll are excellent.

Yeah, I agree that a few minor things need to be done, like notching the f-holes, making the tail-piece curved, and maybe tweaking the shape of the pegs.

The bridge looks right now. :) btw, that's a fantastic job on the scroll. How did you make it? We should compare notes! ^^ (I think you read my thread on www.dvgarage about how I made the scroll. Link below.)

Someday, I'll also try to texture my 3d violin too.

Sincerely,
--ChiralSym

P.S. For those who haven't seen it, you can find my violin wip at:

Hi there, thanks again for the feedback!

When I find some better textures, I will apply them. I will do all the refining afer a while.

I made the scroll with manual polymodeling. It was a real pain.

Here is a pic of the unsmoothed wireframe. After that, meshsmooth with 2 iterations, and 12576 faces.

See you later!
