I am starting a new character...slowly, due to college work... Concept art by my freind Bill. I am making it for a part my demo reel. I hav not decided how many poly's to make it yet... Gonna just do it, and see how many I get. If I need, I can always shave the count down some.

I have no idea for what to do with textures, and color schemes. Your suggestions are welcome, please tell you what you think he should look like. Thanks!

I don't know how I will texture him. That is why I am asking for suggestions! Please let me know how you think he should look. Gimbal needs you all! :)

Good start. When I first saw the sketch I imagined a scaly reptilian texture. Maybe with deep glowing embers under cracked skin (ala Balrog). I don't really know where you imagined him to hang out but he looks almost demonic to me. Anyway, nice work. Keep updating.

I suggest anything but green or purple :-D

I worked on Gimbal last ngiht fot a few hours, and tested some rigging. So far it is deforming great. I have to make the spikes, and then rig and I will show. I am working on the spikes right now. As of right now he is 1800 polys.

The head looks kind of small and wierd compared to the body, imo...

Yeah it is, but I am following pre-pro. Artwork by my friend William Antel. I wanted to stick to his original character design.

***Sorry...stupid hosting service...Pics are gone. :(***

I am going to start texturing him. If you guys have any suggestions on a texture, let me know. Thanks. :)

I like the "beast" -ish look when it is in this post.

I just felt like saying this: he looks like an offspring of ninja turtles and shredder.

I think you should model his feel like the ones in the squatting picture, they look kind of rushed, as do the hands. The calf could use somelove too :) He'll probally look pretty cool when you get him textured.

Peace,

Looks good! I like the veins on his arms. One small crit would be to soften or modify his abs, they look a bit weird right now. I agree with King Mob though, lets see some animations! :wip:

Here is a quick update before I leave Lab: I softened the abs AgentD, I also re-did the feet. and the legs a little. Still not happy...but oh well.

You should try and define his muscles with shading instead of black lines, get an anatomy book and keep it by your computer; It'll help alot, even if it's not supposed to be realistic.

Face looks good, keep going.

hey cool facial stuff so far, but his eyes never move...you should make them bulge and squint a little for added emotion, keep goin man!

Agent D

Nice range of mouth expressions, but King Mob is right, he definitely needs to be able to change his eyebrows/eyes. Other than that, it's looking really good.

Get back and play with your texture some more/

While it is starting to define some muscles and creases in skins, it is very basic.

You need a greater range of values, it seems that there are not so many levels of variation in the tones.

Start adding highlights and thin down your pen.

If you have photoshop you should try to burn and dodge on a layer that is filled with a simple 50% gray (edit->fill:choose 50% gray) then set the layer to overlay mode. Alll of the areas that are 50%gray(whole layer) will become transparent. The start to burn and dodge on that layer and have the layer below be your colors(just flat will do).

If you have ever drawn with Chalk and charcoal using the burn and dodge will give you similar results.

Your design is fun and of the right poly count for most games. You texture is just too flat.

Keep posting.

Hmm...Yeah, I agree...Thanks. I worked on it a little, but I am in the middle of another project at the moment. This afternoon I played with the texture a little, and some bumping, here is the result:

http://jonwilliams.xszone.nl/Web/Gimbalnewest.jpg

***Tell me what you think. Yay or nay, on the bump?***

KingMob
05-26-2003, 04:06 AM
hey looking good, but I would like to see more variation and detailing, maybe spots or some sort of pattern, and on his horns look at real lizard/bull horns, maybe have the color lighten towad the middle and go blackish at the tips, stuff like that.

Also I still think the eyes need a lil more life to them, evn if you just brought the values up a little bit.

keep it up man

The eye morph looks good so far. As for the bump map, I don't think he really needs one since his skin doesn't have any pronounced bumps, so guess anything like that could be made just with the texture.
