I've been looking at, and attempting to follow your spider-progress (http://www.m1k3.com/cgremote/spiderprogress/) images, since it appears you use subdivision modelling, the same way I like to. :p

I'm used to Wings3d / Nendo, and I can follow most of what you're doing.. But I seem to be missing something - between image 2 and 3. It seems that somehow the cube's been subdivided .. I'm really not sure what you've done there.. If I do "Current State To Object" , I get way too many polys to use.. And I don't see anything other than a Hypernurbs added to the scene...

I'm a bit confused. I'm following what you did so that I can learn how to make some cool things - I've never been good at the spline-modelling business...

Anyways, any help you want to provide would be fantastic. =)

I belive what he did is seth the subdivision setting to one, you don't have touse hypernurbs to subdivide, though he did put the meshes in hypernurb cages too get the nice smoothmesh, he also went to Structure subdivide, then checked ht ehypernurbs box, set the subdivision to 1 and clicked okay, giving him a little more detail to wrk with. that can even be done to a election allowing you to subdivide a certain area such as a hand without affecting the rest of the body, granted there will be a few tri's to take care of.

yes and on another note when you are point modeling structure subdivide/hypernurbs subdivde can really help things look nice. just make sure you already have a dense mesh around your edges or you wll get a shapless blob.

of course everyone already know this, but i figured there might be someone who didn't know.

See, I tried that.. And it doesn't end up the same.. it appears that in his images somehow it's conforming to the hypernurbs shape, rather than just adding extra edges. It's like in Wings, where if you subdivide a cube, you get a sort of spherish shape.

This is where I'm confused.

But thanks for your help. :)

You didn't check the "Hypernurbs subdivide" box.

Okay, I've figured it out.

I had to subdivide it BEFORE I put it in the HyperNurbs. If I subdivide it after it's in the HyperNurbs, it gives me the wrong results.

Now it works. Thanks guys!

shouldn't matter if its in thehypwernurbs object or not, just a matter of if you check that hypernurbs box in the subdivide tool. other wise it just adds edges.

like what they said lol :)

I personally never use hyber nurbs sub d if I am actually using hyper nurbs.

I only use the hyper subd option if I am trying to export and dont want to model with HYPER.

couldnt' you just hit "c" then?

I use it whenever I know that I want to edit the higher res mesh Or I'm working on an area I know I wil need a lot more geometry, like a hand which I first just rough out the shape, the I subD once cleanup the little mess of triangles wich is only a few then expande the geometry into the arms to try to keep edgeloops consitent.

Hmm, well, I was getting odd results. No more! yay!

It's funny, but I can say that the "tutorial" is probably one of the better ones, specifically because it doesn't have a "do this, learn it by rote" - it's just images - which forced me to learn how to do certain things. And that's good, because I'll learn how to do it better. =)

Thanks fellas! =)

its sort of like timelapse modeling videos, theya re the best way to learn, though half the time you can't see any tools the use, its more about seeing how they build up the character and add detaila and tweak, more about workflow not the tools. Thats why Martin Krol's modeling videos have been so poular though most people dont' have mirai.
