After a long time away from cgchallenges... I'm happy to be back!
my idea: a girl eating a living rat in front of her friends. For them its a strange behavior...but she like rats anyway. A simple idea, I'm satisfy with it. Just a excuse to pratice my paitings skills.

But, let me say, i liked the first face more... I don't know.... the drawing was much more stylized and it helped in expression, now she has a more proportionated mouth but smaller too... and I liked the old eyebrows too: more natural not so trimmed.:shrug:

Hey Vinicius, I like more the second girl, more "dark and dangerous" , but the first girl have a charming expression :D And the girl with the mouse box... hahahaha great!! " hahahahaha nice! :applause: I think that the girl of the box would have to be in front, and looking with terror to the "mice eater ", and the "mice eater" with an expression of "thanks for the snak" , only a comment :) Again great work mate! :thumbsup:

I agree with SteveWoo too, i like the first face, she seems more funny, and she seems more comic girl, the second is more serious and realistic i think is better not to lose this funny expression.

hi there! To start, I think its an awesome concept which will really spice up this challenge. Love the busty lady, ppl behind and their expressions. But I must say that although the present version of the girls face is ok, I prefer the original sketch. I see much more joy in her and life, what I couldnt say for the colored version... its sort of posed. Most probably everything lays in her mouth shape and the tounge... I hope to see them back. Good luck in this competition, I hope u'll finish it!

About the girl face, I spend some time on it...and I was not obtaining the result desired. So I tried a more realistic approach.

I modify the face, to bring back the first sketch feeling. :)

One of the things that your original sketch had going for it was the eyebrows, which conveyed a vaguely innocent expression which worked well with the action she was taking or about to take... kind of a "wanna see me do something really strange?" You've duplicated the mouth from that first sketch, but not the eyebrows because the hair is covering them and sh'es lost that fun expression. I think it's great that you went back to the original mouth, but shorter bangs or a different hairdo might let the eyebrows read and complete the expression.
(I also really liked how she hadn't yet taken a bite in the first sketch - it was almost more of a dare. It left more to the imagination - would she or wouldn't she go through with it. With a huge bite taken out fo the mouse, that tension is gone... and it's just rather gross. But that's just me and my sensibilities. :shrug:)

walrus: Thx a lot man, your opinion is very important to me, I'm big fan. I agree when you talk about the eyebrows and the rat. I have this stuff painted on another layer in ps. So i can't change and test more easily. Probably the rat will remain intact, thats the original idea, but when I was painting...I couldn't resist, and put some blood on it :twisted:.

Great work Vinicius, I really like de visual of the girl. The detail of the box held by the little girl is very nice.

I think the anatomy of her right arm (the one holding the mouse) is wrong. The forearm is shorter than the upper arm.

Just one crit, the top of her right biceps is a bit off on the last painting. I know there is a torsion but I think it must be a little bit lower, under the deltoïd.

One little concern though, her right breast (viewers left) seems to be cought strangely in her bra. If u check the part around her zipper, where the line of the bra cup and her breast doesnt match. Hmm....my one crit: the hair ends look great being darker than the rest of the hair, but that area stands up too much against the creamy skin, I think that what is missing is the shadow projected by the hair, I mean, the parts where the hair splits an you start seeing skin coud be darker.
But that is just a little thing, I will love to see your work on the rising hand!

It's looking really great so far! The skin's got a great velvety feel to it and all of the details are coming together quite well. My main concern for you is finishing it all in time for the deadline... But you've got to make it, after spending this long on it so far! Go go go! :)

As for some minor suggestions: The little girl's upper arms feel awfully long. It could just be that her shirt is really loose and haanging down, making her elbow feel a lot lower than it really is? Right now her elbow looks to be at her hip, which would make her arms strangely long. Also, when you work on her box more, might be nice to make the logo be typed out rather than handwritten... but that's so obvious, i assume you just haven't got there yet.

One last note, more a matter of opinion, probably: The main woman's leather clothes feel very matte. They shape and flow of the hilighst make me think of leather or vinyl nut the values don't.... Perhaps brightening the hilights more will really give that more of a shiny leathery impact... unless, of course, that's not the look you're looking for, in which case, never mind! :)

Anyhow, good luck with the rest, you can do it!

Looking good! It's great to see all the characters falling into place. How's the rest of the background coming? I'm kinda hesitant to bring up a character crit becuase you have som much work to do on the rest of the painting and not a lot of time, but I'll toss this out just in case you have time:

The guy on the right feels somewhat stiff and plastic. He's changed a bit since your easlier, looser sketch of him (post #46?) and in refining hem, he's lost a bit of life to him. His suit is perfect, without a single wrinkle - adding some more folds in would be a good touch... but it's relaly his face that feels like it's changed the most. The expression is a bit more mechanical than earlier. Also, it's possible that you've polished it a bit too much. A guy like that would have a somewhat weathered face, and here his has a lot of shiny specular hilights which make the surface feel more like polished wax and less like skin. Even your main two characters have more diffuse hilights on their skin. You've colored his chin to look like he's got a bit of stubble, but if he did, his chin wouldn't be all that glossy, would it? Taking down those hilights on his face would be a good start. But there are also subtle changes with his expression that could help... I can't really say exactly what but try going back to your earlier sketch, maybe? It bugs me that I can't put my finger on it - this would be a lot more useful if I could, so I'm sorry!

Anyhow, other higher priorities to get to anyhow... good luck!

The Story - "Eating Rat"

This illustration tell a history of two sisters. The Oldest one, is known by your rebellious
behavior and many times, strange. She likes music and spends most of her time hanging around with friends. The newest one likes: to study (physics and biology), computers and any thing that remotely remember science, she is a typical geek girl.
The sisters are not very close, thanks to enormous difference of interests. But one day, the big sister is forced to take the minor for a visit in the city's major laboratory.
In the way back home, she starts to provoke her little sister. Acting like is gonna eat one of the rats that she earned in the laboratory. And, as you can see in the illustration, the little sister take this very serious, because she knows the things that her sister is capable.


Ideas

when I started to think about the theme of this contest, I remember the picture of a friend, where she is hanging a bat in the top of her mouth. I wondering - "cool!" because I know her personality and that don't seems strange to me. But at same time, maybe for a person who seeing her at the first time, this will seems like a totally madness, or in better words... strange. So, the strange behavior is in the mind of a person, and can be different for each one of us. This is the feeling that I wanna pass with this piece. If you look closely, you will see that people next to her look very conservative persons. And only her clothes would be a motive to they think - "that's a strange girl". This kind of contrast that I was looking for. So the subway environment, seems to me a perfect place to find many different types of people. I used Photoshop and wacom intuos 3.

Hey Vinicius, awesome concept!! I love your painting style with that cool colour tones and great textures, and like a lot the contrast between the two sisters, really great. The poses and the expressions of the all passengers really puts tension in the whole image... "Will dare do this? Or not? " :D .... and the little sister is sure of that .... hahahahah. For me is really nice that sisters relation, and remembers me my relation with my brothers... hahaha. Great lighting and rendereing, especially the main characters' skin... and I like seeing the close-ups - the hilights on the glasses are really cool! I like the story - in a way it makes it less strange for me: Stealing a total stranger's mouse is more strange than tormenting your own sister, which is quite common... but don't worry, I still think eating a rat is plenty strange and you shouldn't change it at all!
