This is the final model of some male hands I was working on over the past few weeks. Really just trying to get a fuller understanding of all the creases, proportions and edges so I can start modeling more realistic ones. I left it untextured on purpose, cause my texturing skills aren't that great and I'm trying to work more on my modeling skills at the moment. Later on I'll make a texturing project out of it.

So here is a couple of views of the final deal. Next I'm going to try and make a leaner, mroe feminine version and also try and reduce the edge count of possible.

Some great hand you created here! Very realistic looking! Maybe one critic! The back looks to flat! Don't know the english word for it! Hopefully you understand what part i'm talking about!

I think you might want to widen the palm....it looks thin. I love it tho, and if it was in a movie, I wouldn't think much of that one minor issue.

yea I would make the palm a little bit thicker, and maybe add some geometry for the tendons, cause right now it looks a little flat
But otherwise great job

Hmm... I agree with Prayas that the back of the hand might be a bit too "flat". It should, most likely, be just a tiny bit more bony. Of course this could be done in the texturing, with a bump map or simply just if the texture has a bit of veins in it.
Very nice job though. Hands aren't quite easy, afterall... Stupid hands.. ~Grumbles.~..

Hey Jason,
I like the hand quite a bit, but I do have a few comments.

First off, you don't need the wrinkles on the back of the knuckles. It looks great, but you a nice texture and a good bump map would produce the same effect, be easier to weight and would result in a lower polycount. (which we all want in the end)

The back of the hand is a bit flat and the over all palm could use some thickness as well as the wrist.(from the side) Plus the thumb sticks out to far sideways on the front and the back shots.

I like that you've realized that the top of the palm is much higher on the hand the the knuckles and that the hand isn't sculpted in a completely flat postion. Over all it looks great!

great work, that is some awesome modeling. I would say the only thing that strikes me as weird is the wrist looks a bit thin. Maybe move the back of the wrist along with the back of the palm out a tad, then move the inside of the palm out more. I have pretty thin wrists myself, but not that thin :)

Great work bud, saw this on rosity too ;)

A great book on hands is "Drawing Dynamic Hands" by Burne Hogarth.

Again, great model man! Can we get a wire?

thanks folks, appreciate the comments :) yes the back of the hand is kinda flat. I increased the tendon action a bit but I figured I'd eventually use bump maps for the major viens. I agree, it could probably be thickened up a bit. I might go back and fiddle with just a tad.

Modulok, I was looking at that book, it does look very in depth! cool you pointed it out.

and here's the wire. a few tri's/5's that need bangin out..

hummmmm....the rivels looks not enough nature..and the palm muscle below the little finger looks a little bit intumescent..and..the palm should be a little bit thicker...but..everyone has different hands,.:p:)
but it still looks good!

Very nice model!

The only thing I can find is to make the hand look more rounded at the knockels area. Meaning that it curves more towards the palm of the hand.

Also good use of your isoparms (adding detail locally)!
