View Full Version : Character: The Hulk - (Own version)
Danko 03-30-2003, 06:00 PM Hello!
Well, I'm a bit sorry, you can call me original...
Here I tried to make an own version of The Hulk, keeping some but not all of the character main aspects. It wanted to give him oversized hands and feet, green huge muscles, a quite small head and of course his fashionable stripped purple pants! :surprised
Please, feel free to drop your crits and comments here. I've jumped to the riging now and expect to post a posed model with BG soon.
Ps: I had to cut the render to make it fit in 20Kb. I'll try to post a rear view render soon too :p

looks cool
the legs look a bit small though in comparison to the rest of the body
are you gonna texture him also?
nice work
it looks good... although the textures look like basic textures - i'd get on the texturing before the rigging...

I'd probably make his head a bit wider, might just be me though... Gotta love the green old pumpkin. Now... Gonna do She-Hulk too ? -.-

Not bad!:applause:
But, Please, oh please, make the pants look like pants. As if they were actually made of cloth. Right now they are some sort of wierd latex and give the effect that you sculpted the both without pants and then just scaled part of it out a bit and made them purple. Cloth does not follow every contour and edge of someones musculature. Even spandex softens out them out.
So while you've got some good stuff going on, make the pants actually HANG off his body and give some weight to the cloth.

Here again! :)
Thanks for your comments! I've finally found some web space to upload my images so here I post some more screenshots with different lighting and views.
j00st81: Thanks! You're right, the lower body is shorter than it should be I agree on this. Btw, I would like to keep it this way altought I should probably shorten his arms then. As for the texturing, I was thinking in some kind of cartoon/ink render cause I hate unwraping :P.
Mattconway: In fact it only has plain diffuse colors now. Anyway, I don't use to break the mesh unwrapping and texturing so hope to be able to do it maybe after riging and posing the character if I change my opinion. Thanks!
M-Rogne: Not sure about a wider head but maybe a bigger upper lip and shorter hair. After looking at some original pictures I think that would bring him closer to the original concept. I take note about she-hulk on my TO-DO list! :D
Maximillion: I completely agree on this! I wanted to show all the muscle definition of his legs and didn't know how to came out with this any clue?. If I make those pants hang I'll probably lost detail on the legs, don't you think? Btw, this latex look doesn't neither convince me actually :(
Dom: Happy you like it! I'll try to post the mesh maybe tonight when I arrive at home.
Here are some other renders:

That's the unsmoothed mesh dom :) Guess it's not very clear but couldn't fit it better into a single image.
I keep riging the beast...

the body geometry looks ok but the face geometry doesnt seem defined enough..maybe u wanna add a few segments down the center of the face and cheeks so that the face wont crack during facial anim. :)
:buttrock: cool stuff!

I agree about the face geo, you should allow for more detail there. Hands and the Face are generally where the highest concentrations of detail will be. Hmmm....... I really need to post some stuff.
As with the pants, You should let go of showing muscle definition in them... you'll need to hint towards it anyways. You've got cool looking calves coming out from them, and having the pants act more like cloth pants will break up the model nicely, making it more visually interesting. Maybe concentrate on how wrinkles look on a pair of jeans or whatever type of pants he's wearing. Perhaps the way pant fray at the edges of rips. You can put as much into them as you did the musculature. Right now he might as well be wearing a speedo in terms of variance in the model.
None theless this is a great try, and you should work on it some more and post again! I want to see more!!!!

Some poses test...
Hi Dom and maximillion. The wire is an unsmoothed version so I agree on the lack of detail on the head. Once subdivided it gets a bit better for morphing expresions :p
Maximillion: I quite agree on the pants matter. I'll probably stop rigging the biped and get back to model a pair of new pants. Thanks for the comment! I'll stop posting here to move this thread to the WIP better... :wip:
Btw, here are the test poses I get after some but not all of the setup... :)

Nice model :D
I would really like to see some HDRI on your character

Mmm... not sure what HDRI stands for. I think I heard something about it, is like diferent lighting compositions on a unique render or something like that isn't it? I'll have to drop an eye on this I'm a bit unpluged on rendering news. Happy you liked it anyway.

I was looking closely at your image, and noticed that you need to work on the hands and feet a little more. Some of the lengths are not proportionate to the rest of the fingers. Especially the First and middle finger. Other than that good work. Keep going. Are you going to be doing some texture work on him?

Hi there!
First of all I'd like to apologize for posting here as I'm currently making many changes to the original model so I should have better opened this thread in the WIP section. I would be glad if any moderator could move this thread to that section as I'm currently still working on that model. I guess it's been a bit impolitic to post here so I beg you pardon
Btw, Thanks for your post johnj, I was playing expressly with proportions althought I also noticed some problem with the fingers. I'll try to fix this.
On the other hand, I remade the whole head and make a texture test. I know the hiar just sucks because at the moment they are only alpha mapped planes and looks quite odd. I'll have to try with some hair plugin or similar. Here I post a couple of pics of the new head in his "human" (A.k.a Bruce baner) form and a kind of dumb aproximation to his evil condition. I won't even venture to call it "hulk" as there aren't any similarities with the well known character.

http://www.terra.es/personal8/937984618/Character/Hulk/Head07.jpg
I also include a link to a preview video of the morphing between faces, but it's just a emotionless morph to see the results so there's no expression or timing on it, as said it's just a plain morph test.

Thanks anyway for you C&C . See you!

I think it's not bad :)
His body structure is very good.
Just a couple of minor issues with respect to the head: (just opinions)
(1) His hair is mean't to be quite rough.
(2) His face looks too serious.
(3) His eyes seem to be poping out.
