Hi
Apologies, somehow I've missed your thread. I hope you still feel welcome here :)
You've got a lovely sb start really
Your shading technique is really pleasing to the eye and your linework is solid.
Could you share some info on your background?
Loving this thread already, please post more :)

AWESOME sketches! :applause:
Superb start to your sketchbook....
Are the ink and pen sketches from life? How much time did each take?
And would love to know your art background as Johan said.....
Update soon....

Thanks for the replies! The time for the pen sketches all vary, the first few are 2-7 minutes. The last two were models posing for 20 minutes.
Hmm... Not much more to say. I'm a 20 year old student currently attending the Academy of Art University in San Francisco, I'm just entering my 3rd year this fall. My major is Visual Development for game and films... and... that basically wraps it all up.
I'd feel stupid posting without more art, so here's a couple more pictures...

Oh, and I'm a girl. Maybe its the name, but for some reason, everyone always assumes I'm a dude.

Jigokuen, you´ve style.
I really have enjoyed your drawings with Pen and Ink. I´ve try to draw with ink once and I though it was very hard to don´t make any mistakes. The sketches with blue ink looks clean and fluid... kind of style I admire.
Your shading work is nice too. I think all we like to see more of your art here...Ok!? Keep drawing.

I'm a big fan of using pens myself and I'm diggin your style. Keep doing what your doing.
Ahh, everybody goes to a life drawing class and I don't have that pleasure. Well, someday..
Now, I enjoyed everything I saw here. Great to see more people joining the forum and more of who I can learn from.
Pen and ink sketches look awesome. I always use a pencil myself, because it lets me correct, haha. Amazed how cleanly and correctly you can draw at one stroke.

My friend went to go get tattooed, and I followed along hoping to sketch some cool stuff. This is all I got out of a 3 hour session, though, not exactly what I was hoping to accomplish. about 20 minutes each.

Your sketchbook thread is pretty cool so far. I really enjoy your pen and ink drawings and I think your painting of the pretty girl in love with the multiheaded man is amusing too. Please post more!

:) These go here because they aren't really finished illustrations... just character stuff for one of my classes at the AAU. I followed the teachers instructions (with obvious infliuences form "The Skillful Huntsman") and created silhouettes before the character, and compiled them here.

One of the brushes used in the second one is from http://www.daarken.com.
How do you go about that? I mean when creating the silhouette of a character? Do you start with a "blob" while not knowing what kind of character you want to create at all, or do you already have an idea that you will be creating a human-like character (to name one)?
What about the costumes... do you visualize the actual parts you want to draw the silhouette of? I'm curious to know to what extend this is a planned or a "let's see what gives" approach.
thanks
seeing this epitome of awesomeness described as the "basics" makes me dizzy...:argh:
Second Johan's inquiry... how do you go about creating your silhouettes?

The silhouettes are more of a way to throw around visual ideas without being penalized with time or effort. so I jump form idea to idea until I see one that catches my eye. Sometimes its usefulr just to get some cliche ideas out of your head. out of these three pages, the one I was most honest with, as in a way to really go through the process of FINDING a design, especially one for that immediate read.
Anyway, more figure drawings. the charcoal ones range from 5-20 minute drawings with models.

Some basic still life paintings. I think I've really fallen in love with painting, before I didn't do much with it, but man, am I excited to take figure painting next semester. The first one took me about 2 and a half hours, and the second one maybe an hour and a half.

These are freaking awesome Mingjue! Great skill. Good to see some paintings also, nicely done. I like the painterly look.
As I see AAU is a great place. It's in my list of where to study after I finish school so I'm really excited to see someone from there posting work here :)
Cheers

This is an incredible thread. I really like how your very efficient with the pen. I'm tempted to want to model some of your characters, (especially the hellraiser like guy) but I think I need a bit more experience.
