View Full Version : shading artefacts
chrleon 03-30-2003, 07:39 AM Does anyone have a clue why this happens?
I'm using softshadows, with a 750*750 shadowmap.. even when I increase to the insane 2000*2000 map, the artefacts are still there.. It is 1 light that gives shadow..
I have a sphere with metal texture, inside a sphere with a glass texture.

Try playing around with the bias value...
I got this great tip when making a glass material and it worked like a gem. It was on the old bhodinut forums (sniff).

A few questions:
Are you using GI?
Which version of C4D are you using?
Have you tried using hard shadows? These artifacts are still there with hard shadows?
Can we see a wireframe (if it's not a simple sphere)?

Your shadow bias is too low... raise the value until the artefacts dissapear.
This is usually a result of your object being too large (or small)
As a rule of thumb, C4D likes you to keep things between 200 and 10,000 units in size. ;)
thanks chris b that is VERY useful information.

thanks for alle the answers, folks..
it is two spheres, one inside the other.. I just turned off 'cast shadow' for the topmost one.
