Hey guys:

What is the underlying difference between Final Cut Pro and After Effects. Does one do more or is Final Cut Pro the same thing but made for the MAC.

TIA

FCP is an editing software, AE is a compositing and motion graphics tool, theoretically you can edit in AE too but it would be pretty time consuming as its user interface is not made to edit.
Adobe has also an editing software like FCP its called Premiere and works well together with AE, Apple on the other hand also has a motion graphics and compositing tool called Motion. So it makes more sense comparing Motion and AE as they are both doing the same thing. Or you compare Premiere with FCP, as they are both editing tools.

Additionally you have to say After Effects has clearly more features than Motion.
