Hey all, I thought I'd post my latest work here for some crits and suggestions.

http://www.shinynewmachine.com/school/scene-02.jpg

I should probably give some background info on this project. It's for a class assignment. A "3 Layer" image. There the background, and then on acetate pages are the mid-ground character, and the foreground character. The dimensions of the final printed image have to be 24 inches wide, by 6 inches tall, hence the shape of the image.

I'm pretty happy with the characters, so I don't plan on changing them unless it's necessary. I'd really like some crits and suggestions on the environment though. Thanks.

Thanks for the kind words :)
The characters aren't quite rigged yet. They can be animated using the heirarchy though. Once I learn a little more about either bones, IK, or character studio, I plan on animating the hell out of these guys ;)

I'll post another update as soon as possible... Maybe later today if I can manage.

Crits and comments are still welcomed.

that's weird, i could tell that the midground character was composited... it looks like the shading is a little off... make sure all your lighting is exactly the same when you render each layer...

also, the foreground and background should be blurred (depth of field). you can fake this within photoshop or whatever compositing package you are using. this would add to the realism...

great work - i'd like to see an animation...

A bit of an update here:
http://www.shinynewmachine.com/school/scene-03.jpg

I'm trying to bring a little more life to the scene by adding in a bunch of background junk.

Depth of field eh? Never thought about that. Thanks for the suggestion. I'll play around with it, once I'm done modelling everything.

I've never used Maya before, but it looks interesting. Is there a demo or anything available?

I'll try and have another update tonight, or tomorrow morning.

Good work, I like it a lot. Those new items that you put in the 'midground' (the boxes with yellow in them) they just look like they don't fit the scene too well. color change mabye?

Well i also thought about switching to maya but i cant handle it as good as max i think I'll use somekinda exporter to animate my modells in maya [yeah i know the viewport is faster and so on] but i think for modelling itsself max is the best
PS:the image is getting better and better but i think u should work a little more on the lighting[using radiosity?]

Hi.

Nice scene but I prefer it without the junk. Probably because when you think about it, why would a load of yellow boxes be stacked in the middle of the floor! Have them on a trolley or somethng parked up. :)
