When I rotate my character's shoulder joint inward the chest squishes/stretches . I know there is a way to prevent this I just don't know how to do it. Can some please explain it to me?

depends on your skeleton.
in general, you can avoid bad deformation areas using influence objects or additional joints.
though influence are more flexible, as you con modify the shape based on a component base.
