I started this model and after making a cut across the nose and down to the jawline I lost the ability to select anyother vertices other then the newly created ones. I mean it doesn't even look like they are there. The picture below shows the problem.

This is what happens when I do a select all. Only those 11 vertices are available. The selection isn't locked. I've tried reconverting it to a editable poly object as well as to a editable Mesh but it doesn't seem to matter. I can still select and edit edges and faces of all the polys.
Now the strange thing is I can use soft selection to move some of the 11 selectable vertices and the missing ones will react as expected but appear grayed out, but they won't highlight when you adjust the radius spinner. I'm stumpped. Has anyone else experienced this? (I'm using Max 5.1 if that matters)
