Hey guys... question hopefully someone can answer:

I drew a curve using the EP curve tool in maya 4.5

Then I have a sphere attached and animated to that curve, with keypoints set at different specific spots by using the graph editor.

Those keypoints, show up on the screen as a frame number on the curve.

Ok, well, now the end part of the curve needs to be changed a little bit. So I hit F8 to go into component mode to move some cvs of the curve, and then all of a sudden all of the keypoints set for the entire beginning part of the curve start sliding around and then the animation is no longer timed up. How can I just keep those keyframes in place and still made a modification to the curve?

Please help. It's for a major school project, and I'm completely stuck.

Thanks!

When you modify the curve, you change the parameter values all the way along (u value). Your keyframes are made on this value so they will change. I'm not near Maya right now, but try looking in the rebuild curve options and the NURBS modelling section of the help files and see if there's an option to reparameterize by curve length. If you can do this then your u-values will only be affected by the geometric distance between CVs, and your keyframes should stay in place when you add on to the end of the curve.
