Hi everyone.

This is my first animation reel, it's maybe too short, I'm still a beginner and I've just made some basics mouvements.

Let me think what you think about it.

I'm not an animator so I cannot do real crits....I like your reel, there are coupple of things I like, but there is one that really bother me..the very first animation (the walk) the arms are moving with the legs...they normaly are opposite mevements...(the left arm moves forward when the right leg does....) ...at least I think.

But the rest is fine...I like the ninja shot in particular and I'm sure you are on the right track

my 5 cents...

Hal.

No expert here, nothin but a beginner (i normally don't even post on cgtalk). Aside from the slightly jerky motions, i think the thing that stood out to me the most was one of the smaller things at the very end. Where he points to the camera. I had to rewind a few times to even see what he did, because the colors blended in, and it had no silhouette, so i personally had a hard time seeing it. I hate to use the word silhouette though, because it is so often overused imo.

the best suggestion I can give you is to create refrence for your movements. Get up and act out what you're trying to animate. Take your sneak for example. Both the arms are stiff and stay perpendicular to his torso. Try moving like that yourself and see how comfortable it feels. Its a good first reel, but remember: art is never done and can allways be improved. Keep it up!

well it certainly looked good, but i did notice some of the animation was jerky.. in the walk and run i noticed how stiff the head was. There needs to be more overlapping motion onthe body parts... .. but your work need to be more tuned adn u will have a pretty cool reel...

Sorry but I did it right, the arms are at the opposite of the legs.

Yep it's my first time trying sneak cycle, thanks for opened my eyes it helped a lot. And you're totally right, art live with the motivation of the artist ^^

... nope! Sorry, but in the first walk they're exactly wrong. Try to walk as your character does. I'm wondering, because in the run afterwards they seem right. With the first walk, you made the classic example of not having understood what happens when you walk, and why.

Besides that you will have to find that out, you should watch your hips when you walk, jump, run...whatever. They're rotating! Even while standing mostly on one foot, the hip is rotated.
The hip absorbes most of the motion the legs do and indicates, where you've most of you weight on - the left or the right leg. The rest is absorbed by the spine. In nature the head doesn't move that much, because why? It's our camera! And you know what happens to the picture, if you don't have a stabilizer in your camera and shake it while running. :)
It's different if you exaggerate animation or even make it toony.

Don't just animate something... try to understand it!
It's your first reel and I'm sure there will be improvement if you keep on trying.

Cheers
Sebastian

The animation is extremely stiff and seems "keyed" you need more fluid motion in your reel with your walk/sneak stuff especially since that is the bread and butter of a demo reel to get you hired.

check out simon's walk and other animations, you see very smooth animation done

run through this tutorial, really nice Run Cycle tutorial:
http://rodri.aniguild.com/tuto_run/run_en.php

I would scrap all your school work and start fresh, or go back into animations you've done and rework them.

Personally I NEVER revisit a walk/run/sneak cycle, because they are so short and quick, redoing it is alot better and it helps you get quicker at doing cycles.

Well if you haven't gone to school for animation or modeling I can see your point of view more.

I'd say definitely find any and all animation / modeling tutorials you can online and buy up lots of books on both subjects
