View Full Version : Network Render on Max 5.0

Since upgrading to max 5.0 I have not been able to get network rendering utilities to launch. I am running a single machine with XP home.

How else could I render a batch of individual renders. Launching Max twice is not such a great option for obvious reasons.

Has anyone else with the same config had difficulties rendering batches???

Help always appreciated...

Thanks,
F

I'm not sure what you mean....
You want a net render with only 1 machine? I dont get the idea.

If you just want to render from, let say, some different cameras in a squence you can use the video post...
Hope I'm for any help.

I guess that is one way to do it. But with Net Render you can line up a whole series of Renders from different scenes and just kick it off at night. It's quite handy when it works...

Anyone else had the a similar experience???

Haven't used XP home myself but it should work. Try upgrading to 5.1 see if it helps. Network render works really well for us here. What do you mean by "not been able to get network rendering utilities to launch"? Note that max 5 uses backburner2 and max4 uses backburner1.

I can only launch the monitor...

I can't launch the server or the manager?

Am I doing something wrong?

With Max 4 all you had to do was launch those three little utils and bob's your uncle...

All of them should work just like in max4. Do you get an error message or anything? How do you launch them? Maybe your shortcuts in the start menu are messed up or you don't have sufficient user rights on them, although I'm not sure how user rights are administered in xp home.

I'm launching them straight from their directory...

I am logged in as the Admin...

Nothing happens when I launch the icons. I have tried launching very executable in that dir but no dice. I have looked in the task manager to see if anything is running in the background and still nothing.

Maybe combustion messed it up. Combustion has it's own backburner...

Try installing 5.1 maybe. Or reinstalling the 5.0. Combustion uses it's own backburner unless you install a patch that lets you use backburner2 with it (which you should do in any case i reckon).
