[ego booster]
bravo!! thats an awesome job there.
[/ego booster]
some things are a bit odd though. upper arms a bit too long, lips are a bit too low+ maybe nose too long gives him a bit of a horse face-ish type look ( its a VERY slight thing tho ) im not trying to be mean. its just that something bothers me about it.
another thing is. the bicep is a bit too large
tricep as well. the elbow sticks out too much . and maybe you could make the hand a bit larger ? not sure , its just that the left hand looks a bit small ( his left not ours :)
encore.

bravo!! thats an awesome job there.

I'll just say what Ambient said (since part of those comments are mine) ;)
*edit:
I might add that I like the walkcycles you've got on your site. They show good progress. I expect the final version to be kickass ;)

I have only one gripe and I really don't wanna post it because taht is just amazing...the texture on the shirt material on the shoulder...the wrinkles are too uniform and akward....other than that its just incredibly humbling and inspiring stuff :)

HOLY, WOW!!!!!!!
I'M A BLADE FAN AND I THINK YOU DID A KICK ASS JOB. WELL DONE. YOU'VE GOT IT MADE. YOU THE MAN.
wow....... this is something serious~!
:)
i wonder how did u do the lightings?
which software are u using? i just want to know it more specifically so that i can make experiments out of it.
btw, there is only one thing bothers me. the wrinkles on his shirt at the shoulder is not necessary.
the pose for the medium shot is great. but as for the long shot, somehow i doesn't feel comfortable on this. maybe u should tweak the pose or something. or maybe it's arm. or maybe the overall compostition. figure this out and u'll get my hand claps~!
:applause:
really nice work and keep it up~!

Superb- The variations in the specular and gloss shine in the various materials (skin, clothes, glasses) is done quite well. The way the pants are shiny and the shirt is flat makes it look all the more interesting.
I am also interested in the room scene itself. Would it be possible to see some high or low angles of this same scene? The deep pit around Blade or the high ceiling may add a lot to depth of the scene.

First of all, I will say this is a great image. Nice model and render, but I must agree with earlier comments. If the flaws were fixed, then this would be a real cracker!
I agree about the arms and hands. Hands look somewhat small and like a low poly set of hands that have been merged onto the arms.
The head is quite cool, although doesn't really capture the likeness of Snipes. Only minor tweaks are needed to remedy that.
Also, the pants/groin area reminds me of rippling water for some reason.
Having given my crits, I still do really like this image. I especially like the body armour. Very nice.

I reckon it'sa pretty solid all round image. Are you a proffesional 3D artist. I'm new here so I'm not sure how many people here are in the industry and how many are just learning. The most glaring problem to me is the triceps. Other then that it's hard to fault. I'd love to be able to get results like that... With time hopefully I will :p
Gino, didn't you work for Lost Boys in Amsterdam ?
I saw you're gallerry from Kithan, Mao-lin.
Amazing work, cause i wanted to work for the studio khitan is working for and i asked him how good my portfolio had to be....which level, and he showed me youre gallery and said.....something like this.....WHAAAAA.....i gave up :wip:

aren't you working on Blade 2 - where in some scenes Wesley Snipes is replaced by a CG Character?
Amazing work!
If you could correct the minor errors (bizeps) it will be perfect
Heh Gino, nice work indeed!
I don't need to tell you it's good, so I'll point out the bits that don't seem right to me. I understand your still tweaking....
Blades left arm looks low poly, making it perfectly straight. It kinda looks weird seeing as the rest of him is organic.
I think that a bit of back lighting (talking about the close up) wouldn't go a miss. Especially on the inside of his left arm and leg.
good stuff. Excellent texture variaty- I love the hair and the way it's catching the light.

wow, is amazing your work Gino, I can tell than is one the best models that I have seen,   , Wesley Snipes can be happy, now is immortal :) .
with your work sure than you be inspiring to everybody here, and that's great.
Gino , how many time you needed to create and to complete the model of Wesley Snipes?
good luck with your future works, congratulations.

even though it's a great image and I salut you for that, but i have just a few things to say (not trying to be cruel or smth just my opinion to make it better)
1. the hands are kinda small compared to his proportions
2. the ground texture in the bottom image looks stretched in the lower left corner
3. his head is kinda square
4. his sleeves have a small resolution bump map and it looks bad
5. the fact that there are cracks in every inch of the wall in the second image makes the wall look dull and unrealistic
6. his elbow is kinda stiff looking
7. his pants displacement could use some fixing
:scream: however really impressive, in fact one of the very best (and they're a few)

wow all i have to say is i did see blade 2 and unless you did the cg work for him which i doubt cause this model is so much better then the one in blade 2 then you should of been the one to do it for blade 2 cause even thought there fast motion shots of him when hes cg its lacking the detail you can tell big time alot of the flaws with the movie, yours rocks man, I have to say i wish they put your model in instead of the one they used, wow. good job
btw the movie rocks blade 2 rocks big time loved it

you have just modeled my current personal hero :) Blade kicks some serious vampire arse :D
but for the crits
I have to agree with most that say the hands especially the left (his left) is to small along with the wrist, this could be angle but doesn't appear to be..
I'm having some probs with the lips, I'm a black male myself and we do not have lips that big :p tho Wesley is a bit of exception
case in point, look at the top lip of your model and look at this pic
http://www.psu.edu/dept/medialab/images/wesley.jpg
see the difference?
also the proportion for the nose doesn't seem to be inline with the lobe of the ear like in real life, (well most of us anyhoo ;)) the nose seems long in relation
but other than that kicka$$ :applause: :applause:

Great textures, and the model looks good too.
The only thing is Blade looks a little more like Shannon Sharpe then like Wesley Snipes. But the resemblence is there,
It's a great job though.

Hey guys,
Thanks for the kind words and as Ambient said, it's an [ego-booster] :)
Also yeah there a LOT that can be fixed on this model as Ambient and others pointed out, but for me it's a done job. This project has been going on long enough and it's time to move on to something else. ( Blade 2 maybe, buahaha.. pffft yeah right :)). I may tweak him during the months coming so I'm making notes of all the critic here.
As for someone saying that his hands look low poly, that's been done intentionally. I have those same kind of gloves and when you put them on, your hands look a little blocky. It wasn't meant to 'look' lowpoly but just blocky :)
Cheers,
Gino

I use Maya.. As for the lighting:
I have 2 light sets.. One for the character (8 lights) and 1 for the dome/arena whatever (55 lights). The dome lights cast light on the character and the dome itself but the character lights only cast light on the character. Out of those 55 dome lights I would say 30% of them are low intensity lights in some small hallway or backroom and stuff like that. The other 70% are overhead lights and filllights from the side/ground.
btw.. both images are not from the same setup. If I change the camera angle I may change the whole light setup.
For the most part also I went for the 'cool' look not the realstic look, aside from Blade the character itself of course.. Reality is so boring.. Sometimes you have to tweak it a little bit :)
Cheers,
Gino

Snipes's da man.. He's the only good hero impersonator right now, actually ever :) But anyway..
Heh.. I think you just pointed out my biggest problem on this project especially when it comes to modeling the head. Pretty much all my reference came from the Blade DVD. I've never really looked up any reference of Mr. Snipes himself as you just did. I was always looking for Blade pictures. Of course as you know it's hard to get any good angle views from movies shots.
Anyway.. That would explain all the nose problems and what not :D
Oh, I don't have that big'a lips either :P

Oke.. That's it.. That just pushed me over the edge :)
I wasn't gonna touch this model anymore, atleast not for a while.
Now y'all got me at it again.
I'm gonna modify the head and come back this time with a facial animation of some kind with him saying something like

Hi there Gino ! Very good modeling/shading...
Your WebSite has some very well done drawings too... "PixelbyPixel"...I came from that 'time' too... heheh... 8 / 16 bit computers...
How many hours or days did you spent on this scene ?
What about the render time ?
Btw : My english is not so good. :)
Btw 2... I am a big fan, of Snipes Movies. Blade is one of my favorites... When i saw the movie, on DVD, i captured many chunks of the movie to the computer, did a Remix with one soundtrack ("Junkie XL - Dealing With The Roster ", i guess...) ...So i edit a Video-Clip to my Remix, using many Blade Scenes... If you wanna see it (Divx):

Super job on the lighting and textures--totally photorealistic. Getting skin to look real, especially a five O' clock shadow can be tricky.
What package are you using and what modeling technique did you use: SubDs, NURBS, Polys?

hey, love the blade stuff...I have a question though..
I am working on a scene very similar to the room you created, a circular type room, kinda ancient looking...
could you give me any advice on the camera (range, placement, FOV, MM) and lighting (how many and placement)setup you have in there, and is your set a cut away set, or is it completely enclosed all the way around.
any tips you can offer would be greatly appreciated....

As a relatively newcomer to 3D software, I have some questions for you, if you would be so gracious to answer:

How long have you been using Maya?
Good work! You've definately given me something to strive for.

i wonder are u using the default renderer in maya? or do u use Mentalray for doing the final renderings of this image?
if u do use the default renderer, what kinda settings do u use? do u use raytrace? how long does it takes to render? and under what kinda hardware settings?
anyway, i knew this isn't so important for an artist. but maya's renderer really give me a hard time on catching up deadlines when i use it for animations.
btw, about the wrinkles on wesley's pants. do u model it in the mesh? or u use displacement maps? and i like the shader that u use too. :p
i really hope i can learn shader networks from u.

I use good old default Maya renderer, no raytrace. It takes about 12 minutes to render Blade and 6 minutes for the background. They get comped later on. This all rendered at 1820x1024 on an Athlon 1400MHz.
I've tried Maya displacement once but that increased my rendertimes enormously so I dumped the displacement and modeled all the wrinkles myself.

Gino

For lighting, please check one of my previous posts.
As for the camera FOV 80, Focal Lengh 20.. That's pretty much the camera settings I used to get the whole room shot. The set is an enclosed set with even some backrooms here and there.

I love the image and the ones on your website as well. I rarerly see male characters modeled and posed this well. The walk animation from the site really "felt" like a correct animation for your Blade character. I would still like to see a wireframe if that is possible. I learn a great deal by looking at how others build there meshes and I would definetly be interested in learning from this model!
Thanks,
