Concept Art:Redesign the Classic Monster (Dracula, Frankenstein, Werewolves, Zombies)
"Halloween Concept Art"

I am putting together a modeling challenge that involves new designs for traditional Halloween monsters (Vampire, Wolfman, The Mummy, Gillman, Witches, The Bride etc)Iimagine that we are doing an cinematic opening for a mmorpg based on classic Monsters called "Monster Realm".
The idea is to do 3D models for rigging.

Check the work of warcraft video for inspiration:

Ok we need;

Character Designs
Concept Art
Environment Designs
And Storyboards

Some samples of the work I am looking for:

Concept Art (http://werewolfcolony.1colony.com/images/werewolf.jpg)1
Concept Art2 (http://www.fantasy-fan.org/files/Jordan/ConceptArt1.jpg)
Storyboards (http://www.studio222.net/gallery/album18/monkeyking_storyboard2)
Post it on this core thread:

LEGACY POST BELOW:
Hey guys, it is that time of the month again...

Lets talk about the next challenge....

I have been leaning towards:

"Human Expressions"
Where an artist would have to sculpt the

8 core expressions (from Robert Plutchik (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Robert_Plutchik)ís list) either as a head or a full body.

They would be:

sadness (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Sadness)
joy (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Joy)
disgust (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Disgust)
surprise (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Surprise)
curiosity (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Curiosity)
acceptance (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Acceptance)
What do you guys think?

Well I forgot that Halloween is coming, so I am organizing something special after the current challenge. (note we will need Concept artists)

We will do "Human Expressions" later and another Tribute.

Hrm.. could do 3d renditions of great concept artists.. carlos huante (he does some really strange stuff, would be appropriate for a halloween theme), syd mead, ralph mcquarrie, ryan church, etc. would be cool to see people take a 2D concept with limited reference (just the one painting or whatever) and see what they can do with it.. either a replication of the painting as a whole, or just an aspect of it, or whatever.

Humm I love your ideas.
Some artists I had in mind for future tributes are:
We could do a Syd Mead, Burne Hogarth (http://www.amazon.com/exec/obidos/search-handle-url/002-3580729-7473619?%5Fencoding=UTF8&search-type=ss&index=books&field-author=Burne%20Hogarth) , Norman Rockwell, Rick Baker.
Of maybe a HCR Cutout?

For Halloween we will ramp it up INMENDIATLY after the current challenge,
and the dateline will be REALLY tight since the models have to used for animation......
more on that little fact later.

Yeah, love the idea... I will definitely attempt to get in on that one.

Unfortunately I have no time for the current HCM challenge since I am working on a solo animation (http://forums.cgsociety.org/showthread.php?p=4591408#post4591408) for the Strange Behaviour challenge, but it looks awesome. However, "Halloween Creatures" is too much fun to pass up. Cool idea!

Cool idea...if I have time I'm in.

....Wheel of Time fan Roberto? I noticed you picked a sketch of Lan as an example of the type of sketches you're looking for for the next challenge...a tribute to Robert Jordon might be a cool theme for a future modeling challenge.

Some future ideas....

Sports in Motion...
Eadweard Muybridge (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Q8X0sHS0g8A) Tribute
Modern Masters: Rick Baker
My Portrait...Have another artist sculpt YOUR portrait, and you get to review it.
For the next one...

I want to do a
"Monster Realm" mini challenge. It would be based on a "Worl of Warcraft" like world, but with the classic Haloween monsters.

The idea is to sculp models based on concept art by other artists.

Here is a sample of some of the concept work we have done:

The idea is that I want to do a challenge where the final model could be rigged
and if the artist allows it, we could have the rigging challenge folks take a crack at rigging our models.. Hell we could even get the fxwars people to join in.

Of course how far I take this idea will depend on the user participation (and your comments on this thread)

Sounds great Robert, this will be my first HDR modeling challenge, so i'm looking forward to it, have you got a start date set? Would we have to model from a concept?

Some great Concept art, or concept art ideas, can come from the White Wolf brand of Roleplaying Books... (can be found at www.white-wolf.com (http://www.white-wolf.com) or at most comic book stores)

They have Vampire, Werewolf, Promethean (looks kinda like frankenstein), Changelings, Mages, etc.

Though I'm not sure if they would like the idea of us using their art to create a different type of art... I've always been skeptical about doing this...

If nothing else it could be used for inspiration...
