Hey guys, I'm pretty new to rigging, and I'm trying to rig a character for a video game I'm working on. I'm going to need to make the basic movement animation sequences. I plan to first start with walking, then running, then shooting, etc. My problem is I can't find a foot rig that will do what I want it to do. I bought a DVD from Digital Tutors on rigging, and it was tremendously helpful for a new guy like me, but the foot rig it came with was pretty lame. It worked great if all your character was ever going to do was walk. I've been out of the loop for about 11 weeks now - I just got back from Ft. Benning, Georgia for Army Basic training - so I can't remember exactly why it was messed up. The bottom of the foot was always parallel with the floor plane; there was no way to rotate it. Also, I couldn't rotate the ankle with the leg (as if the leg as a whole were bent at the knee - this rig would keep the sole of the floor flat on the floor).
It ws apparent this rig was no good right after I followed the instructions, but I don't know any other way to do it. I don't have much experience with rigging yet, so I have no idea how to figure it out on my own. What I would like the rig to do is let me rotate the foot at the ankle, have some sort of toe roll control, and not be constrained to the floor so as to restrict it's rotation in any direction. To me, it's a simple, basic foot control, but like I said I haven't the experience to determine what's easy and what's not. Does anyone know what kind of rig I need and where I can find a tutorial for it? I'd greatly appreciate it.
