View Full Version : Cinema 4D 5.31 XL
MukMan 03-28-2003, 08:13 PM I just discovered that long ago, my school recieved a copy of Cinema 4D 5.31 XL to see if they wanted to buy it. For some reason, they decided against it. I do my modelling in wings3D and would like some nice program to export into for posing and making the final rendered scene. I reliaze this isn't veriosn 8 or anything, but would this be any good for my purposes?

as far as I can remember c4d 5's renderer was still very good, I remember being impressed by it anyway :)
its also been given away for free on several recent magazines, ( anyone remember which? )

Ahhh yes the good ol days of 5.3 when C4d was really working on getting it in schools, I"m forever grateful for that, thats how I got into C4D was 5.3, then spent the summer with the demo of XL 6 and got the school to buy it when the next year started because of all the cool things thaty oculd be done in it so simply.
Yeah, posing may be a little hard, and you dont' have Smells like almonds, but its stilll a good app with a decent renderer, fast thats for sure.

Meh got sick of looking at myself and figured everyone else was too.
C4DSE v5.2 can be found on the PC Plus mag disk ... 05/2002 (May2002)
It sports quite the different interface for sure... older style... and this app does not have near the options found within the latest versions, but... yea, it sure has a terrific renderer, good quality and fast... and believe it or not, this app is perhaps one of the quickest to open apps of all time... a perfect compliment to Wings3D.
and remember... with this 5.2 version all you have to do is register it and voila, instead of paying 595.oo for v8 you may now upgrade for 495.oo... after taking off the fifteen bucks for the mag this means you save 85.oo. cool

We still are. Our lab prices may have gone up a bit, but the student pricing has come down a lot since 5.3. Don't forget that qualified U.S. and Canada students can purchase the R8 XL bundle for only $295. And AFAIK our lab pricing, policies and support still beat the competition hands down.

oh don't get me wrong Rick, I just know that our school recieved a copy to use for a year without purchase back then, granted it sat on the systems untouched most that year till someone finding mirai a little had and strata a little well stupid, thought he'd give it a go. That was risky business granted ths instructor was a good negotiator, the deal he landed with Nichimen just before they became Wniged edge Technologies was even better and cheaper for the school. Man was I a lucky kid in school.

No offense taken - just thought I'd take the opportunity to drop in a plug. And you were a lucky kid - my school had EI 2.9 :annoyed:
yea but now adays you get some sorta free iBook for buying EI.
Which would be totally cool if maxon offered. even though an iBook is a tad underpowered really.
yeah those where the days an entire lab of mirai for free:D
mmm c4d....
yeah our teacher was the best we always had access to the latest and greatest...cept for new chairs

yeah but even with the old chairs we can always remember the "chair orgies" hehehe
yeah when you think about it, access to a 25 pc lab with strata, C4D, Nendo, Mirai, that crappy bryce, man were we lucky.
You guys were really lucky, I wish I would have had access to 3D apps in High School. I didn’t really even realize much that there was a huge 3d world like this until last summer or so. Oh well I bet Im not the only one who had to resort to drawing caricatures of the teachers :p.
mmmmmmmmmmm chair orgies....best was the demolition derbies...until we ran into the computers
