View Full Version : frame-numbers in movies?
CosmicBear 03-28-2003, 07:08 PM is it possible to have the individual framenumbers displayed in the preview-movie or any other movie that's rendered?
i know it's not possible with r7, but maybe it has been added to r8?????
or is there a plugin/script/something for that???
it's kinda difficult to animate something, then watch the preview and then figure out in which frame something has to be changed...
thanx in advance! :)

well if you have quicktime pro you can see it if you get movie info
other than that you can just use a good editor I.e final cut pro or avid to get your time code.

i do have quicktime pro but that's not what i'm looking for. i want the frame-numbers, not the timecode.
i know, that i can get the frame-numbers in after effects, etc. but that's a bit too much work, isn't it?
render movie (no matter what resolution or what quality) or save preview-movie, open in after effects, add timecode-filter, render movie again just to find out if you need to change the foot-position from frame 27 to 28 or if the hand is going through something at frame 56...
when rendering a movie it's not that big of a problem actually... i just use a quicktime-movie with a frame-counter that i prepared in AE and just put as a texture on a box. but when rendering a preview-movie in quick-shading the movie is not being played as a texture...
sometimes i miss animation:master...
Hi,
a basic framcounter is pretty easy. Just place a Text object (in a LoftNURB) as a child of the camera and feed it the frame number via Xpresso. With some more Xpresso knowledge you can build one that shows complete SMPTE information.

- make a text object
- ad an expresso expression to it
- drag text object to expresso manager
- add a "text" input to the text object (in the expresso manager - blue square/object properties/"text")
- create a "time" node (new node/expresso/general/"time")
- create a "frame" output on the time node (red square/"frame")
- connect the "frame" output to the "text" input
move the frame scrubber around and behold

thats good to know!!!
such things should be as simple examples in the manuals...
cheers

If they gave simple examples for everything in the manual it would be 10,000 pages long.
