I thought I'd join in as well. :)

Character Description:

Name: Culbert 'Cul' de Sac

Occupation: Philologist

Age: 36

Hero-Personality: 'The Gleaming Gentleman'

Back-story:

Culbert is a philologist of French descent. His ancestors accumulated all imaginable kinds of chivalrous deeds in the 14th Century, serving as knights under the lords and kings. Culbert has always had a keen interest in these deeds, which led him to his choice of occupation: Philology. He immersed himself in the study of old languages and texts in order to understand his forebears' motivations a little better. Then, one fateful day, when he was doing research in the library, it happened. A heavy, leather bound copy of 'The Canterbury Tales' fell from one of the uppermost tiers of the many shelves and landed directly on Culbert's head. He scarcely survived this incident... When he regained consciousness in the hospital, an odd plan had formed in his mind. He would venture out and deal justice, just like his ancestors before him!

Four months later, he had finally pieced together a costume he liked. He lacked the sense for fashion and means of manufacture the real superheroes apparently always possess, but he came up with something. The most important piece of equipment, a knight's lance, he fashioned out of a plastic ice cream advertising cone. It was of course too short and light, but he didn't notice in his delirious state of mind. His shoulder pads were crafted from basketballs. The tights...I'm not sure I even want to know where he got these from, but he managed somehow. Patterned ones, even!

Thus equipped like a 'hero', he went out into the night to guard the city...

Superpowers: None, really. He verbally smothers his opponents with Old English and Old French phrases they hardly ever understand.

Notable side fact: The Gleaming Gentleman gained an infamous reputation for failure among the citizens, leading them to term him 'The Dire Sire'. The Gentleman of course ignored such petty offences. Or maybe he just didn't notice.

Fantastic story. Really well thought out. Kind of a modernized tale spin off of Don Quiote de La Mancha. I cant wait to see more from this one.

Hey we have similar concepts! Good luck!...

dmcgrath: Thanks. The similarity to Don Quixote wasn't quite intended, I was just looking for a knighthood oriented character. Ah well, he doesn't have a horse, no Sancho and doesn't fight windmills, so the comparisons only stretch so far. :)

dinlenmis: Thank you. I didn't look into your thread until yesterday, so I didn't see the similarities. I started my character at the beginning of the challenge, although I only now got around to working on the final piece. But I nevertheless think that the two are sufficiently different to make each one interesting in their own right. Good luck to you, too.

Oh they have differences and similarities in their both originalities. I think one of the most hapless heroes, the old knight of Mancha is an inspiration for both of us, and maybe the other challengers in the future.
See you!

A few days ago I decided that my original image wasn't really getting anywhere, so I ditched it and started a new one. It's a homage to those comic-to-screen film trailers of recent times. :)
