I have AE standard edition. Just learning it and I bought the Myers book. Anyone point me in the direction of any tute or pdf's that can show me how to combine a rendered tga sequence and effects created in AE. What am I missing by using standard and not pro versions of AE?
Thanks.

Hey there!!!

How weird no one is replied to you post... :surprised

As for combining the .tga sequences with AE effects? What do you mean? Just dropping the .tga layer unto the composition? Or applying an effect to the .tga sequence? :hmm:

Weird isnt it? Bummed. What I mean is if I render a tga file from lets say LW and then another tga from C4d. How do I combine those tga to make a final animation? Like I create car in C4d and a guy in LW. How do I combine both images to make one and then add effects to them?
Thanks for reading and posting back!

Let's begin...

Usually, when you render something in .tga sequence, alpha is included in the render (that would be the black around the object).

If your shot requires for your guy to simply stand behind the car, then nothing special is done. Simply put one layer in top of another, and since the alpha is included, both layers will look like they were rendered together. And the cool thing about Compositing is that you can get either the guy or car and scale them so you can create distance without having to do it in a 3d package. And you can color correct each layer separately!!! BWAHAHAHA HAHAHA haha hee... :insane:

But if your guy requires to stand in front of the car, open the door, and sit inside the car, then a lot more has to be done in the 3d package.

First off: The Guy in LW has to actually go inside something in LW. That's usually done by creating something simple (Low-poly) that resembles the car. Before you render (I don't know if LW or C4d have, but MAYA does) put every item in a Render Layer. What it will do is simply allow you to render each item separately, but the outline of the unrendered layer is applied on the rendered one as Alpha. In this case this applies to the man in LW.

Vice Versa in C4d and the car.

Note: BTW, in both packages you have to make sure you get the same camera angle.

Once your done, bring both .tga sequences into AE. As for the effects, AE has a lot of them, you might want to be a bit more specific as to what you wanna do. Remember that even applying text into a composition is considered an effect in AE.

I hope I didn't confuse you... but usually when a project is done in layers (like yours), they are usually done in the same 3d package, that way things like camera angles and proportions don't become too much of a hassle. If you still have problems, let me know at: jassband@hotmail.com , or if you want, I can do it here with images... let me know

Thank you thank you!

At least I have a better idea - not much more but a whole lot better. Are there any tutorials covering this? Like I said I have scene planned where a character is walking through a house and walks out into the yard. The character and walk-run cycle is being done in application A. The house and backyard in application B. If I render both as tga files I bring in both tga files into AE and use alpha channels to glue them together?? i get it but I dont get it. Never did it and never saw it done. Reading through the manuals really doesnt cover step by step like I need them. Im a visual kinda person and love to see how someone else did it.
