I think its important that, while crediting Jason for his artistic talents, we don't ignore Jasons contribution in other fields.
His tireless work for charity, notably for blind disabled red-haired children in Angola, is probably EVEN more significant than doing the LOTR films single-handedly.
Jason is also an accomplished concert pianist, fluent in over 12 languages, and without his work in translating the dead sea scrolls the field of anthropology would have been set back decades. Jasons book, "Fermats Theorem: Piece of Cake" is available in all good bookshops.

hmm...I go to the sight and click the liveradio show I get a 404 error, and I think I spent about 10 minutes looking for the pre recorded shows with no luck at all.
*Edit* - Well I found it, just took me a long time to search and peck around the website, but it's not even the right interview....*sigh*. Well my head hurts trying to download this, think I'll go work on maya were things are easier and make sense :)
Cool idea though, I'll just wait till someone posts a link in this thread :)

The radio show has been posted. You can find a link to the mp3 of the radio show at 3D Buzz... just look at the top of ANY thread in the forums. I am NOT requiring you to be a member to get the file, so head on over and download it. Its 48MB in size and weighs in at 3.5 hours long. Jason's airtime was over an hour long!
A giant THANK YOU to Jason for such a wonderful interview. Jason - you da man!!! :D We will have to do this again, that's for sure!
I would also like to give special thanks to CgTalk as well as Tito for posting the news about the interview - you guys ROCK!
Well... I better get busy planning next week's show... and VTMs, and.. the list goes on and on ;)
Cheers!

Jason, thank YOU for the interview.. I had a great time giving it, and thanks to everyone for bothering to listen in! :)
Just wanted to also add a huge thanks from everyone at Weta to all of you who are such fans of the work.. it's really inspiring for us to know that people really enjoy the films and that all these 100+ hour weeks at the end of the production are really worth it!
cheers!

p.s. to those of you who've emailed me privately, I promise I'll respond asap.. just gotta get some free time!!! :)

Jason ... terrific of you to be so open and candid for us all so early in your morning !! I congradulate you on all your past and future successes!
Keep on rockin'!
btw, my question didn't make it through to the interview, but I've heard that PICKLES are a very valuable commodity in New Zealand! (i.e. there aren't any) If this is true, I'd like to arrange a sea container to be shipped full of connaseur pickles - 50/50 - you and me !

Good luck with the puppy. Not only do they make great pals, they're an endless supply of great reference material.

sorry to burst your bubble Sammy, but as far as I know, there's no lack of pickles here in NZ ;)
Though Jason might still like some....

I dunno if there's a better place to post this, but it's a question from the show =)
It was mentioned in the show to do the first pass of animation using stepped curves. Makes sense to me, just like watching keyframes in traditional animation. And Ive tried that before--- BUT I cant seem to read the timing (at all).
If I just start doing it, will I get better at reading the stepped animation? or is there something else I can do to start reading them better?
Great job on the interview! :applause:
jschleifer
03-31-2003, 10:47 PM
It just takes practice.. try adding more keys inbetween using the stepped curves & shift 'em around so you can get the idea of the timing.. then as you begin to understand what it means when an image holds for a bit of time (say around the top of an arc), you'll need fewer and fewer keys to begin to see it..
hope that helps!
