i know the resolution for NTSC and PAL, and frame rate too, but the fact is that if regular TV can only goes up to 525 lines, then what's the point of rendering stuffs out of 720x486, the TV can never show it! thus, i wanna render it out to fit the 525 lines limit and also save some time on rendering, but i dunno what aspect ratio i should render it out, if the ratio is 4:3 then the resolution would be 525x394. but that comes to another problem, which is the diff. btw TV pixel and monitor pixel, if i remember it correctly, TV pixel ratio is 0.9 and monitor is 1.0, so if the aspect ratio is 4:3 and the TV pixel ratio is o.9, then the resolution best fit a TV would be 525x354 (525 /4 *3 *0.9 = 354), but the problem is that i'm not sure about those ratio thingy above, and i dun the maxium resolution of a TV is 525 lines x ??? lines, and at last i used Nero burning-rom to burn a few VCD for demo, but it never show my vedio correctly, so i just wonder how u guys output/make VCD (NTSC VCD 352x240 @29.97fps)??

Lines are measured horizontal, not vertical. So 720x486 is 486 lines not 720.

First, I would not use regular VCD. 320x240 is going to be pretty pixelated. I would render standard ntsc resolution and use SXVCD/XVCD(as long as your dvd player supports it). This will allow you to playback full ntsc rez movie in mpeg2 format on a vcd.
You can find out more info on XVCD here: http://www.dvdrhelp.com/xvcd.htm
You can find out what formats your dvd player supports here:
http://www.dvdrhelp.com/dvdplayers
If your dvd player doesnt support XVCD then atleast do SVCD which is 480x480 in mpeg 2 form.

thz alot, i'll remember it by heart this time, ..... 525 is vertical lines:p

and i dun have DVD burner, so i can only output VCD, i know i can actually put a NTSC format (720x486) mpeg2 file on a CD-R, but some player doesn't support it, so if i send out a demo like that to a company, it may end up like.. they just throw my cd away :thumbsdow , so i'd better not take the risk!!

now i know what resolution thigy is, still dunno 2 things:

1. is most TVs are either 4:3 and 16:9??

2. is the pixel ratio for NTSC is always 0.9, and for PAL is always 1.066?? then what is the pixel ratio for regular computer monitor, cos i remember my teacher told me that the pixels scale on TV is differnet then those on monitor! (i left the skool and back to HK, so i cant ask:annoyed: )

??? no its horizontal lines.

I thought you were putting it to cd/vcd so so you could output to tape from your dvd player hooked to your tv.

>>1. is most TVs are either 4:3 and 16:9?

95% are 4:3. Your putting stuff to video tape so you have to use 4:3 or make it 16:9 with black bars.

>>2. is the pixel ratio for NTSC is always 0.9, and for PAL is always 1.066?? then what is the pixel ratio for regular computer monitor

A computer monitor is normally 1:1, but if you use a dvd player application(windvd) it respects the .9/1.066 aspect ratio that is imbedded in the mpeg file.

It's what jeremy said in the other thread. 525 Horzontal lines but vertical resolution.
