I really want to start customizing my setup, but the number of scripts out there is daunting.

I was hoping that some of you might share what you consider to be your most useful scripts? I lean more towards modeling, but I'm sure others would find any scripts for other areas useful as well.

thanks,

God if your a modeler you've got to have CPS!! I'm not really the best modeler and CPS has helped me in ways I couldn't have even imagined. Also another cool things is that when your skinning you can bind your skeleton to the low-rez base and its cake to control the weight influence and get clean controlled deformations on your hi-rez proxy. If you've never tried cps, try it... and if you don't have it ...get it. Also check out MJPoly tools I just started using them and theres some cool things they can do.

if you are considering poly modelling a lot i recommend that you check out wings3d (http://www.wings3d.com) - you might have heard of it - i didn't know that poly modeling could be that easy

for maya's user interface i recommend the GOA* scripts - well, i wrote them :) (http://www.highend3d.com/maya/mel/?group=melscripts&section=interface)

GOACameraBookmarkDude - easy setting and recalling of camera bookmarks

GOAToggleFullScreen - easy full screen toggling

GOAToggleViewportColor - cycle your viewport background colors (bright/mid/dark)

cps and mjpolytools are a must have

the project manager from imre tuske is pretty handy too - it will automatically ask you to change your project when you open a scene from a different project - pretty hand and not intrusive

SwitchGrid to increase and decrease grid resolution on the fly (assigned to hotkeys alt+ alt-) ( http://www.highend3d.com/maya/mel/?section=interface#1415 )

ctrl-c to clear selection

reassigned 1,2,3 to switch between vertex, edge and face selection - 0 for object mode

i hope that helps

Very cool. Thanks to both of you fine sirs!

I'm started with CPS, and ran into a little snag. As you can see from the attached .jpg, my cpsControl window is jacked.

Any idea why this is? I've copied the all the scripts into my scripts/startup folder. Is that what I'm suppose to do?

Please exuse my ignorance when it comes to scripts, I'm obviously just now trying to use them.

thanks,
m:buttrock:

you guys weren't kidding, I'm not sure how I've lived with out the Cut Face tool. god knows how many hours i needlessly wasted clicking on edges.

i can seem to figure out what the Wedge Face does?

create two custom commands in the hotkey editor

switchGrid(true); // increase resolution

and the other one

switchGrid(false); // decrease resolution

then assign hotkeys to your two custom commands - i have put them on alt+ and alt-
