View Full Version : New Autodesk Area -beta
Koogle 08-07-2007, 01:57 AM Go check it out: http://the-area-beta.com/index.php/home/beta/ :)
They've really done a better job of it this time, its looking very slick  .. And no high contrasting white pattern background that ruined the previous Area site imo, and more so on a larger display.
Looking forward to seeing it out of beta and running fully. I'm thinking this is going to be a lot more popular this time around :)

Thanks for the link.
Looks okay, can't complain though; content looks promising.

Well they couldn't coral me from CgTalk the first time, so I doubt they will this time either. Personally, I haven't found a use for the site other than bonus downloads and an occasional tutorial. From my perspective, the site has been a huge letdown. shrug.

anyone would be ignorant to think they're trying to "steal" anyone away from their existing CG websites. That's not what the Area is all about. errr shrug?

looking nice imo. Esp the tutorial feature looks pretty damn great. Beeing able to simply hack in your tutorial online with assistance for the formatting and ensuring it all fits in nicely looks pretty cool i think.

I think its alot better then V1 (which I thought was cool but a V1). I can't get alot the the links to work though. Like portfolios, wips etc. Its wierd, at one point I got into the WIP area where there was a Tank WIP. Now I can't get the link to work or anything.
I realize its beta so its not really all setup yet but it would be nice to check out these areas
(I've always wanted a wip area there...)

Seriously, what's you're deal? I never even used the word steal so why you quoted it is incomprehensible. I don't know one of my workmates or anybody in the industry who uses the area consistently, so in that context, it fails in my microcosm of a world. Maybe this new version will improve upon the product but I'm in skeptic mode. Slow loads, clunky forum, broken links, very few reviews on tutorials.....I can continue if you like. I mean if it was so phenomenal then why a new beta for the entire site so quickly? I'm sure there are plenty of people who use the area daily, but just none of the artists I work with. shrug shrug.

Well since sparks is closed down and integrated in the area there simply is no other place to discuss SDK issues. So unless you want to rule RnD out of the industry there ARE ppl using it consistently :P

No, I guess they're needed, ugh. :P :P
In the beta version, you'll still be able to post to the forums and upload your images and tutorials but, as this is a beta, none of these will be passed to version 2 when it's released. So hang on to your amazing work 'til then - but you can let us know what you think of the beta via the forums.
This is the correct link:
http://the-area-beta.com/index.php/home/beta/
The page basically explains the state it's in - broken links, missing content, etc. They're testing, fixing, and most of all, receiving feedbacks. If you are already a member and/or are interested in visiting AREA in the future, please let them know what you think. Now is your chance. :)

Don't worry MrPositive, I got what you meant along with others I'm sure. Your just having someone pick apart your words which is.....
The area is not setup to go against CG Society but it just adds to the Autodesk benifit as you mentioned. I do like the-area alot. I think they are working really hard at really improving things. But sadly, its slow and all the things you mentioned so I rarely visit.
Hopefully V2 will improve most those areas so I will hopefully be on there alot more. Mainly the slowness is the BIGGEST TURNOFF.
Anyways, I really appreciated what they did for 3December there and i'm REALLY glad they have a WIP area now my kudos to the creators of The-Area
