Why would mapping an image to the environment of an ambient occlusion shader (shading group) be needed? I understand the need for straight or even reflective ambient occlusion. but when you map an image, I'm guessing HDRI for most cases, then the ability to multiply the result over the other render goes out the window, in a sense.
I suppose if you dial the colors way up so that the resulting reflected environment is able to be multiplied over the scene without killing brightess/contrast it can add ambient color to the scene...
Anyone ever used this technique?
