maya particles do not interact wid each other,
to fill water in a tumbler u need to have inter particle collision..
so its not possible to do this in maya..
so best way out is as thomwickes said, use realflow.

Hi guys
i know that it can be done in realflow, i thought maya fluids had intercollision and we can use it to fill water in a tumbler i had seen a maya promotional video for fluids...... i tried but i am getting a very thick water something like an oil.... the collision of fluids with the tumbler is also not accurate, if anyone can help in fluids little more detail it would be helpfull

If you turn the fluid form soft to hard found under the Surface attributes, you can get a water/mud effect.
To get the fluid to act more like a liquid go to the dynamic simulation and lower the Damp to a negitive value, something like -0.250 ( use small values in damping). If you us a high damping value the fluid will act more like syrup rather then free flowing water.
