View Full Version : Hypercam Video Capture Tips?
nester999 08-06-2007, 04:42 AM Hey everyone. I'm making a rigging reel right now and unfortunately I'm down to the point where I have all of my files ready, but whenever I use hypercam, I get so many artifacts and trails in my recording that it's hardly worth using. Does anyone else have a more sophisticated program or solution to this problem? Would be much appreciated. Thanks!

Try their camtasia product. It works very well. Hope this helps!

I use debut (http://www.nchsoftware.com/capture/index.html) for my screen capture. It's completely free and can record with hardware acceleration (camtasia requires software z-buffer to record in 3dsmax, dunno about other software).

Hi Nester,
I use Hypercam 2 all the time. I dont recall getting artifacting or distortion in my screen recording. Things you might want to consider is to try and use the 'select region' instead of 'select window'.
Try altering your compression output of recording, right now, I have mines set to auto-select with 75% compression.
You can select the divx codec compression-that one also works well for me and it is one of the better compressing routes to go (just not many cpu users use Divx as their default player).
Hypercam mostly interacts with AVI's extension format so if you are working or saving your projects other than AVI, that might be a contribution to your problem.
Plus, do you actually own the software or are you trying it out?
As I recall, when I tried the product, the video capturing was not as sharp as when I purchased the licensed version.
Let me know more in detail on your configuration, then I can probably help you out more if you still need the assistance.
Good-Luck!

Pleeeeaaaaasssseeeeee don't do a rigging reel demoing off the various controls of the rig and swinging the viewport around! Have someone animate your rig and do some playblasts or captures of it in motion showing everything off. I see so many rigging reels where people are flinging the viewport around like it is the next Six Flags theme park ride that it makes my head spin. If you've created a cool rig and you want to show off the features, most of us will ask for a demo rig to open up and play with so we can see for ourselves. Show the rig animated so we can see how it moves and deforms, whether it has any additional features like secondary animation controls etc.
Don't mean to hijack the thread of spin it off topic but it's that time of year with lots of reels pouring in and I just thought I'd offer some advice :)

yeah, I was suspicious of that being a pet peeve for viewers of the reel. Real quick to everyone else, I got ahold of camtasia and it works beautifully. Thanks for the support.
As far as finding animators, my college class was pretty small and everyone sort of fell into modeling or compositing at the end so we didn't really have any animators around. Is there a thread to find an animator who needs material for his reel as well?
I have three rigs at the moment that anyone is more than welcome to mess around with:
1. The Samuel L. Jackson facial rig from the unofficial rigging challenge (still going on. Vote for Nester999!!!)
2. An FBIK rig of Fone Bone from Jeff Smith's Graphic Novel Bone.
3. An adaptation of the ostrich-dog looking transport animal from Ralph Bakshi's Wizards.
To BoostAbuse, thanks again for the advice. It's insider advice like that that make these forums so valuable.
I guess my next task is clear.
