Hi Guys,

I am really getting frustated after trying to model head over n over again. I have see so many tutorials, so many ways but still I am not to decide what way is the best to model head. I have seen patch modeling tuts, I have seen tuts where they create a head out of semi-cylinder, I have seen NURBS modeling tut..and I have tried them. I found the semi-cylinder way to be easiest but always get stuck while giving proper shape to the head...specifically saying face. I rather say that I get lost in all those vertices that I have to work with on faces. Maybe I am stupid enough to not being able to learn the technique yet or something else.

So, can you guys give me little inputs on how can I improve myself, and learning techniques. What kind of personal learning techniques you adopted?

Thanks a lot in advance.

Two ways to do organics which are perhaps better adapted for such would be... subd modeling, and or direct sculpting.... and or use both :D

just do a search for head models done up by so many members here, and see what they use, and which tuts they suggest

Hiya.

I always have trouble with heads/faces too. What I've found to be useful is to not think in terms of how/where the skin should bulge, droop, puff out, etc....but in stead to think of the underlying bone structure. If you know where the bones are, you can more easily 'wrap the skin and meat around it'.

hi
i find polygons the best way to model a head.
if u have no references then i suggest u model usin a poly cube,n use extrude technique.
if u have proper front and side references, then i suggest u start at the eyes n build down.look, the face has 2 major muscles loops on it,around the eyes n around the mouth,so u make them 1st n then work accordingly.im not too big a fan of sculpting for face cus it does not follow the muscles loops meanin u cannot morph then model correctly, if u r usin a 3d package as ur main software.i'll seee if i can make a video tutorial n then post it.

Learn how to draw the head using polygons on paper if you are starting out. Remember to try to keep your polys 4 sided. Start with the eyes and mouth and get those polygon rings the way you want them. There are many different ways to start out modeling a head. Try one if you dont like it try another until you find one that works for you.
