does anyone here have a clue about how to do chain mail in cinema 4d?

I am working on a pic and want to add chain mail to my picture. is there way to do this with out spending months peicing every link together?

any help would be greatly appreciated

PS is it possible maybe to do this only with textures and not much geometry?

Don't know how to do it in cinema 4d, but you shouldn't be modeling it... Unless see it real close to the camera.

If it's not to close, fake it with texture. Do a simple shirt that as a heavy feel to it on your character. Bump, displacement & reflection maps should work wonders to fake it. If employed correctly.

Good luck

I am testing out displacment a bit but....

i am having some problems with it

the following pic has the same texture applied to it. both objects are poly not primitive and for some reason one does not displace.

ohh silly me ignore that last post. I didnt have a UVW tag on my object cause it was point modeled.

adding a UVW tag solved everything.

JIII : is it necessary to use displacement? as far as i know displacement changes the mesh...but bump will usually do unless you're going to see the resultant mesh in shadows etc...and is less memory heavy...someone might be able to correct me though.

I am very interested in seeing how you go about getting the results you are after. I have a similar project that I would like do something similar to.

There's a really nice chainmail material on DeepShade (http://maxon-computer.com/deepshade/shader/shaders/mineral/046/046.html). if you're still looking for one. :)
