View Full Version : how to spand ram memory for Zbrush

i have a question with model's level in zbrush, i have 4G ram memory , but i just can doing 6 subdivisions (level 6) for my model , and i try to increase the "max poly per mesh" in peference ,but it doesn't work , i can't subdivision my model into level7 or higher , how can i do ?

Level 7 doesn't mean anything other than you've subdivided your model 6 times. The number of polygons at level 7 will depend entirely on how many you had at level 1. If you had 5000 polygons at level 1 then subdividing 6 times will give you over 20 million polys at level 7. If you have anything over 5000 polys at level 1 then level 7 is going to be a lot of polys for any machine to handle.

hey~ thinks , i know this ..but
i can only subdivision my model into around 500 million polys , is that the limitation in Zbrush?
or any solutions to increase my limitation?

500 million??
Did you just say you have 500 million polys in your mesh on level 6?
Well *lol*, is that not enough?
I think ZBrush 3's limit is on about 999 million, don't know really. So anyway, you could not go to level 7 in that case.
But tell me: For what exactly do you need 500 mio polys? I would say not even ILM on Davi Jones needed 500 mio polys :D

Not sure, but if you go to Preferences->Mem->Compact Mem you can slide up level of physical memory used before it starts compacting and going virtual.
