Here is the linework and some shadining guides done in Painter X for the left side, The Left side is near finished. Still working on the right side. The Story is very long and involved so I'll save is for when I get more detail.

Rapture - A portrait of the strange behavior that some of us exhibit while trying to achieve the rapture of ecstasy. This piece has many elements in it. The Overseer, representing our sub-conscience commanding the world in our brain's pleasure centers. He oversees the different forms of ecstasy illustrated in the piece such as how when we are in the mode of attaining our vises, represented by the clothespins, we tend to shoot down any thoughts of purity, discretion, or innocence, represented by the angel of innocence of the far right. The fire Hydrant represents the underflow of current that can stop the obsession mode when the overseer's pleasure pixies miss and the brain calms down and forgets about obtaining cheap or instant gratification and ecstasy

There are several forms of ecstasy illustrated here the most prevalent being sexual or orgasmic in nature.

I find it very strange behavior how we as humans have a mechanism in our brains that forces our hand so hard on attaining a sense of ecstasy that we close our minds off to anything else and shoot down the very innocence and discretion that we had when we were children. Many of us get into trouble this way. It's part of a major demographic of the human condition.

Techniques, Sketch, in PS, line art in Painter, final image in painter, tweaked in photoshop. Used mainly Painter's airbrushes and some watercolors for pastels.

I would appreciate any critique or comments.

Thank you,

Ken David Matheson

I've tried to paint in a impressionistic style myself before. It didn't for me work to say the least.:D

What you have achieved here is absolutely brilliant! It made me go to your portfollio and I have to say that your attention to detail and grasp of textures is amazing. I see Dali and HR Giger as some of your inspirations.

Very well done!

Was washed out due to overcompresion. I ran it through a different compression and it kooks much better.

Same storyline.

Further tweeked the encoding so that it fit under the 150k limit and so my thumbnail would be there.

The Same story applies to this painting, reduced in image size and compression.

Your painting is very interesting and the original style it there with
an impression of chaos which without releases, perhaps just a
criticism on the composition which a little too is in the same plan.
Good luck and cheer for your realization.

For every pixel I'm allowed to increase it's size, the better it looks. Unfortunately, it is at it's limit.

I wish I could upload just another 150k of this final. The colors get washed out when I compress it too much. It isn't as rich as before.

Thank you for the compliments.

Not sure I quite understand the crit. I'm open to crits so I can improve the piece. Please be more specific.

Well, for $8500 USD, you can have an 8ftx15ft aprx sized piece numbered and signed limited edition print. Only 3 prints in exsitance, about 6 48" slices pieced together on your choice of Matte or photo paper. Or you could have a standard frame size print for much less (not numberes or originally signed.)

Sorry for the shameless plug....

Hi, ken.

Your picture is very impressive like a mural painting and subject is strange between psychedelic art and Chagal’s painting !

Wow, much thanks. Perhaps I could post sections of the detail if i could figure out how t link to another site... I have an idisk??

Thank you for your wonderful comments. I seriously doubt I'll win, it's as if my entry has been overlooked, maybe it has but nothing I can do.

You comments are an inspiration to me. Again, thank you.

Heya Ken
I am quite staggered and a little humbled now that I have had chance to pop over and see what you have worked on. I adore vibrant colours, I sometimes think it is a weakness in my work but here you prove that vibrancy can be achieved with excellence.

Your attention to detail is most impressive and I too echo the desire to see this piece nice n big - its something that needs to be looked at from both a distance and up close and personal. I looked at your gallery to and it's clear that you imbue an awful lot of personal stuff in your work and the giger-esque twist to your work just makes me even more envious.

Thank you for contacting me, thank you for sharing your art with us and the very very best of luck!

As I said, thank you so much, I was hesitant to go so vibrant at first but the contrasts and the mood I was in at the time made me put in more detail in color. More primary than pastels.

Thanks for your comments, I really enjoy what you have ben doing too.

Ken,

This piece is mind boggling! There is so much to look at and take it. Awesome symbolysm, it really reflect what you set out to paint in your story line.

One crit, I would get the moderators to use your 3rd image as the final because as you pointed out the first couple were poorly optimized while the third one looks quite nice in color.

I'll keep my fingers crosse for you.

Thanks for taking the time to do this.

Hey Ken, just wanted to say one last time how completely spellbinding your work is, it is so interprative for the viewer, finding their own way around and drawing their own conclusions. To achieve such an immersive peice (at the same time as submitting a whole host of other images to your gallery) is testament to your achievement, well done.

Wow, what a great compliment. I thank you for you ind words and am flattered to say the least. I have been so busy working on the Latin Grammys Screen work for the last 2 months that I haven't been able to dedicate any more time to the site and viewing other's illustrations and giving them crits. Sorry about that. I'm just not recovering from the show and can finally get back into submitting more.

I will check out your entry and once again, thanks for yours and everyone else's support.

Good luck all.
