View Full Version : Scene: Transedence
FatAssasin 03-27-2003, 10:42 PM I did a picture a long time ago of a woman holding a candle and I thought I could improve on that piece now that I have more 3d experience under my belt. The figure was a Poser model, but now I'm going to model her, along with everything else in the scene, from scratch.
Here's the beginning of the woman. This is actually going to be a model of my wife, but I don't think she'd want me posting her picture here so you can see the reference. :) I'm still fine tuning the features, trying to get it "just right". I'm finding it's a lot more difficult to model a face when you're trying to get a likeness...

I don't think I was very clear when I first started this thread. The first picture is just a mock up of what I want the final compisition to look like. The girl in that image is just a Poser model. The new model I'm doing from scratch is my wife. This is going to be a portriat of her more than anything. So the new images, and future images, you see are all based on her. Actually it's probably best to just get rid of that first picture so people don't get confused.
And here's a wireframe...

wire is looking good, the mouth could use some finetuning but i think as long as you dont plan to do an animation involving the mouth you should be fine.. :)

coming along nicely, skin is looking very gad. maybe add a bit more specularity to the lips and around the nose.
eyes look a bit glassy right now but that could be rather due to the lighting

This is coming along very nicely.. I agree on the glassy eyes, though I think the main thing causing it, from looking at the eyeball model you posted seperately as well, is that the front iris/lens/etc. assembly is far too big, it should be about 2/3 to 1/2 that size for a 'real' eye. There's also a small model or render quirk on the nose, can see it on the right nostril (her left), not sure what's doing that but it sticks out as strange.
The style of the hair is cool, but I think you'll have to make it a lot more substantial to avoid modeling an ear altogether. I'd go ahead and tackle the ear, everyone's got to do it some time. :D
Hmm and minor thing but I liked the trees bg better than the stone wall, just personal preference..heh.
Other than that, looking good, I like the soft natural feel of the face. Keep on keepin' on.

Another update. This time I'm posting the final image as it is so far, instead of bits and pieces that don't give you any idea of the final piece.

And here's a close up of the sad gargoyle in the back...

Hope you like it. :wavey:
Oh, and I just noticed I completely misspelled the name of this thread. It should be "Transcendence". :hmm:

hehe... really dig the gargoyle. has a very nice handcrafted feel to it.
her skin in the final picture is looking a bit dead right now, but well.. its all work in progress so i will just wait and see what happens

Thanks Stimpy. I know what you mean about the skin. I'll have to see how it looks with the rest of the body. If she does end up looking "dead" I'll add a couple warmer lights around.
